Attention to the Dependency of Elderly People in Spain

Abstract

The aging of the population has caused an increase in the number of elderly people dependent on care. Traditionally, assistance and support for them has been provided within the family, but the social changes that have occurred, among others, the incorporation of women into the labor market, who have been the ones who have fundamentally provided care to their elders, require State to have adequate legal frameworks and effective financial mechanisms to guarantee the right to life and dignity in old age.
