IDEIA Commitment
Last update: 02/05/2026
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences adopts the IDEIA principles — Impact, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility — as the pillars of its editorial policy. These principles guide every stage of the editorial process and shape the journal's commitment to a plural, transparent, and socially relevant legal science.
Impact
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences understands impact as the capacity of scientific output to influence academic knowledge, public policy formulation, and social debate on Law. It is not merely a matter of bibliometric metrics, but of the concrete relevance of research to society.
We promote impact through:
- Publication of theoretical-empirical research with practical applicability for the formulation, implementation, or evaluation of public policies;
- Monitoring bibliometric indicators in international databases (Crossref, Dimensions, Google Scholar) and active dissemination through academic networks;
- Encouragement of interdisciplinarity and dialogue between Law and other fields of knowledge;
- Dissemination of articles via academic social networks and institutional channels to expand reach and visibility;
- Provision of presentation videos by the authors themselves, bringing the reading public closer to the research;
- Commitment to multilingual publication, broadening the international reach of results.
In this way, Pensar seeks to contribute to a legal science that engages with contemporary challenges and produces measurable effects in both the academic field and the public sphere.
Diversity
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences promotes diversity as a core value of its editorial policy. This is expressed in the geographic and institutional plurality of authors, reviewers, and editors; in openness to different legal and methodological traditions; and in multilingual publication, which broadens access and international participation.
We promote diversity in concrete ways through:
- Publication in five languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French;
- Editorial line structured around three permanent thematic axes, articulated with a transversal section of International Articles, in which foreign contributions may be published in their original languages;
- Active internationalization of the editorial board: minimum 35% of foreign members, in compliance with SciELO 2024 criteria;
- Robust editorial exogeny: editorial board predominantly without institutional ties to UNIFOR;
- Ad hoc reviewers from multiple Brazilian and international institutions;
- Open access and Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, ensuring free global reuse of content.
Thus, Pensar reinforces its commitment to academic and social plurality, ensuring that different voices, perspectives, and legal traditions participate in scientific debate.
We support and encourage research that follows international guidelines on sex and gender equity in empirical research (such as the SAGER Guidelines).
Equity
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences embraces equity as a central principle of its editorial policy, recognizing the historical and structural inequalities that pervade academic production. Our commitment is to promote equal opportunities for publication and scientific participation.
We promote equity through:
- Transparent editorial processes based on scientific merit, not on institutional position, gender, race, or origin;
- Guaranteed double-blind peer review, reducing conscious or unconscious biases;
- Encouragement of participation by authors from different social, economic, and academic contexts;
- Promotion of research addressing social justice, human rights, and access to justice;
- Open science policies that broaden the possibility of participation by different academic communities.
In this way, Pensar contributes to a more just, inclusive, and representative science.
Inclusion
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences understands inclusion as an essential part of its editorial mission. We seek to create a space accessible to different academic voices, promoting the participation of groups, themes, and approaches that have historically been underrepresented in legal science.
We promote inclusion through:
- Encouragement of submissions from researchers at different stages of their academic careers;
- Valuing interdisciplinary contributions that dialogue with Law and related fields;
- Welcoming studies originating from regions and institutions outside the major research centers;
- Multilingual publication (Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French), ensuring broader international reach;
- Commitment to the IDEIA principles at every stage of the editorial process.
Through this, Pensar reinforces its mission to broaden access and ensure that multiple perspectives participate actively in scientific debate.
Accessibility
Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences embraces accessibility as a central commitment of its editorial policy. Our goal is to ensure that scientific knowledge is fully accessible to all, without linguistic, technical, or social barriers.
We promote accessibility through:
- Publication in five languages (Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French), broadening international reach;
- Licensing under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0, allowing open and free access and legal reuse of content;
- Provision of articles in digital formats compatible with international accessibility standards (HTML, accessible PDF, complete metadata);
- Encouragement for authors to adopt accessibility best practices, such as figure captions and alternative text (alt-text) for images;
- Commitment that all editorial stages align with digital and scientific accessibility guidelines.
In this way, Pensar contributes to a truly open, inclusive, and socially relevant science.
