Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences is an open access and free digital scientific journal, created in 1992 by the Center for Legal Sciences of the University of Fortaleza (Unifor). Classified in the A2 stratum by the Qualis/CAPES Commission (2021–2024), the journal has established itself as a relevant space for academic debate and the dissemination of legal knowledge, with impact on academia, professional practice, and interdisciplinary fields.
Published on a continuous-flow basis, Pensar follows international editorial best practices, guided by principles of scientific ethics, open science, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). It is linked to the CAPES Major Area of Applied Social Sciences, with a specific focus on the Law Area, covering Public Law, Private Law, Theory of Law, and Special Rights.
As of 2025, Pensar – Journal of Legal Sciences organizes its publications into four thematic axes: (1) Law, Democracy, and Social Justice, (2) Constitution, Institutions, and Democracy in Brazil, (3) Law, Technology, and Society in Transformation, and (4) International Article.
These axes are aligned with the CNPq Fields of Knowledge, with Social Sciences – Law (code 6.01.00.00-9) as the predominant area, and subfields corresponding to topics such as Legal Theory, Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Administrative Law, Political and Economic Law, Civil and Commercial Law, among others. Secondarily, the journal interfaces with the fields of Sociology and Computer Science, depending on the focus of each article.
It stands out for its internationalization, with the participation of foreign editors and reviewers, and for bilingual publication (Portuguese and English), broadening its global reach.
Pensar charges no submission, processing, or publication fees and encourages the open availability of research data and materials, in line with Open Science practices.
