Design science research (DSR) is an approach that arouses growing interest in helping people and organizations optimize the results of their efforts, being particularly attractive for technological development and research with a more applied nature. This article aims to characterize why DSR should be taught to postgraduate students. The research method was a qualitative case study focusing on an applied technical-scientific research discipline offered in master and doctoral programs in Administration, Entrepreneurship, and Project Management. The data came from semi-structured interviews and documents relevant to the discipline. The results characterize
the benefits, modes of use, contribution, and importance of teaching DSR.
