The contemporary business environment is highly dynamic, and organizations, as well as their executives, seek to achieve superior performance and competitive advantage through IT resources and capabilities. This study aims to investigate how IT governance can contribute to building an agile organization. To enable this study, a qualitative single-case method was employed in a major insurance organization in Brazil. As a result, it was identified that IT governance, through strategic alignment between business and IT, and through its relationship with its mechanisms (processes, structures, and relational mechanisms) and domains (strategic, management, and operational) integrated with the SAFe agile framework, enabled the organization studied to become more agile. The study contributes to the literature on IT governance and agile methods, as well as to managerial practice, by proposing a model for integrating governance models and agile methods.
