Abstract

This study aimed to develop, validate, and test an instrument for assessing prospective successors’ perceptions of parenting styles. The methodological process followed the instrument validation framework proposed by Piccoli et al. (2017), which comprises four stages: (1) questionnaire development, (2) face validity assessment, (3) content validation, and (4) reliability analyses using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, along with data adequacy and consistency tests conducted through Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The instrument demonstrated a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.723. The EFA provided an effective and satisfactory representation of the original data, with the factors comprising the Demandingness dimension accounting for 63.42% of the explained variance and those comprising the Responsiveness dimension accounting for 62.02% of the explained variance. These findings provide evidence of the instrument’s validity and reliability, supporting its use as a tool for assessing prospective successors’ perceptions of parenting styles.
