Abstract

Objective: To present a clinical protocol based on current literature in order to optimize the emergency care of dental trauma in deciduous and permanent dentition. Methods: A documental study held by means of literature review of studies available in the following data basis: MEDLINE, Cochrane, Pubmed, Lilacs, and BBO SCIELO, using as keywords: dental injury, classification, diagnosis and epidemiology. The protocols produced by the International Association of Dental Trauma (IADT) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) were also reviewed. Conclusions: The clinical protocol represents the most actual evidence based in literature research and clinical experience of professionals. The recommendations presented in this work are in agreement with those reported in IADT and AAPD protocols.
