Objective: To analyze perinatal deaths in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitória and their classification in terms of avoidability. Method: Ecological and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach divided into two stages. Where step I consists of collecting secondary data and using spatial analysis techniques to characterize perinatal mortality in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitória and step II refers to the description of the epidemiological profile of perinatal mortality from the perspective of preventability. Results: The studies revealed that 92.69% of deaths are preventable, with a higher concentration of deaths avoidable by adequate care during childbirth, followed by deaths that can be reduced by adequate control during pregnancy (36,53). Only 4.69% of deaths were classified as non-preventable and 2.62% as ill-defined. Conclusion: Perinatal deaths in the state of Espírito Santo, considering the avoidability classifications, showed a higher occurrence as a result of adequate care for women during childbirth.
