Abstract

This work was carried out to estimate the peak discharge of a small watershed sited in the semiarid region of Brazilian Northeast using Geographic Information System (GIS). The study was developed in Jaguaribe Mirim watershed, which belongs to the Alto Jaguaribe basin, sited in the meridional portion of Ceará State, Brazil. Over land flow was estimated using the Soil Conservation Service Method, Curve Number. The effective rainfall over the area went from 16.62 to 114.88 mm, while the peak flow discharge changed from 0.76 to 24.42 42 m3 s-1. Based on the results, we concluded that perspective of the model use is high, spite of the conditions of data set access.
