Abstract

Abstract The improvement of mathematical models for analysis of the thermal and mechanical behavior of pavements increases the need to know the materials characteristics. This paper has as goal analize methods to calculate thermal diffusivity and determine the thermal characteristics (specific heat, conductivity and thermal diffusivity) of hot mix asphlat prepared with different binder. Samples were warmed to data aquisition of the temperature variation by the time. The thermal diffusivity was calculated by three methods: Experimental, Campbell Analytical Equation and for the Inverse Problem Method. The results obtained with the different methods are in agreement and in according with the values found in the literature, showing that the analyzed methods can be used, with accurately, praticity and low cost, for determination of the thermal characteristics. It was presented too typical values of the thermal characteristics for the materials studied.
