Abstract

This work presents the use of laser velocimetry to obtain turbulence details and fluid flow characteristics, through the description of two studies in which this technique has been used: generation of turbulence by oscillating grids and sediment settling in a reduced physical model of a reservoir. In the first study, the laser velocimetry was used for observation and measurement of the generated turbulence. For the reservoir, it aided as a tool for the comparison between the sediment settling data and the predictions obtained with a numerical model, which demonstrated the advantages of using numerical procedures to predict settling. In both studies, developed in laboratory, the results showed the adequacy of such technique.
