Abstract

Water loss was investigated in 642 water supply systems in Ceará. The losses were on average of 36%. The loss index in the production (LIP) was 4%, while the loss index in net (LIN) was 1.21 m3/h.Km. About 25% of the systems showed losses equal or greater than 50%. Results in the basins showed that Banabuiú, Litoral, Baixo Jaguaribe and Salgado had the worst performance. For a distribution loss index (DLI) goal of 30% there will be an increment of 39% in the offer of water. These earnings may achieve up to 70% if a DLI of 15% is reached.
