Abstract

This paper deals with the Schooling Project set up to people serving sentences being followed up by the Alternative Sentences Execution Court of Fortaleza (VEPA) through an agreement between that Judiciary Unit and the Secretaria of Basic Education of the State of Ceará. For such, the Deprivation of Rights (PRDs) shall be defined as the psychosocial characteristic of beneficiaries of that intervention, followed by a discussion about the importance of Education of Young People and Adults in the social inclusion process. The difficult condition of employability and the con sumption of psychoactive substances by the beneficiaries will be the object of reflection which shall use both the experience of VEPA’s professionals and of members of the Human Rights League (NUCEPEC-UFC), pointing out the need for creative actions to be implemented sometimes through the very professionals from the Paulo Freire Education Center of Young People and Adults, venue of the Schooling Project, sometimes through the Social Network partners. After the six-year course into the Project, the Free Conference held in April 2009 shall be presented: “Alternative Sentencing – Building a National Policy of Public Safety with Citizenship”, which, aiming to collaborate with the formulation of public policies to be defined during the first National Conference of Public Safety has also made clear the critical and purposeful capacity of the PRD accomplishers. The need to create a partnership between VEPA and the agents of social policies with a focus on autonomy and mutual respect between these public agents is pointed out as an indispensable thing to achieve the social inclusion longed for while serving sentences.
