Abstract

The scientific citation was discussed in its most conceptual meaning and took into consideration the main aspects of the researcher’s behavior in the construction of scientific papers. The role of the scientific vehicle was also approached through the analysis of the index system and evaluation process. The focus was on the Brazilian QUALIS system that serves to 45 areas of knowledge. Brazilian researchers show greater interest on international periodicals. However, in areas of Humanities and Applied Social Sciences national vehicles tend to show a higher relevance compared to others fields. The paper also pointed out the format of a scientific communication through the analysis of the proportion of components and the structure of a paper. This essay concludes with the proposition of a simple model for evaluating the quality of researcher’s performance. The discussion showed the evolution of the concept of Brazilian science.
