This research objective was to evaluate, historically, the behavior (increase or decrease) of some Health Service Waste (HSW) indicators in Brazil, using as a reference the SNIS information from the 2012 to 2021 period. The analyzed data were extracted from the Urban Solid Waste Management Diagnosis, which is annually published on the federal government websites. Eight indicators were chosen: (1) mass of HSW collected per capita concerning the urban population, (2) total rate of HSW compared to the total waste collected, (3) total quantity of HSW collected, (4) total expenditure on HSW collection, (5) number of municipalities with differentiated collection execution of HSW, (6) responsible for carrying out differentiated HSW collection, (7) occurrence of HSW remittance to other municipalities, (8) types of technologies adopted in the treatment of HSW. The research allowed us to understand the general situation of RSS management in Brazil. Of all the indicators, only the first two showed a reduction over time; all others grew, indicating increased expenses, municipal legal adequacy, and growth in incineration usage and the microwave or autoclave for HSW treatment.
