Cowpea is commonly called Corda bean, Vigna bean, or Macassar bean. It is the main legume grown in the Northeast, and is part of the diet of most families in the region as it is a rich source, mainly, of protein and iron. The analysis used climatological data from the INMET weather station code A322 located in the municipality of Garanhuns, from January 2017 to December 2020. From the climatological data, evapotranspiration was calculated using the Penman-Monteith method, which made it possible to simulate cowpea bean cultivation for the municipality’s climatic conditions using the Hydrus 1D model. As the water balance is one of the main methods for estimating the water demand of a crop, in different phenological phases, and given the importance of cowpea in the northeastern agricultural scenario, the objective of this work is to simulate the water dynamics in a soil cultivated with cowpea using the Hydros 1D program.
