Is there any way a possibility to develop a citizen-oriented media?

Abstract

Reflections about a citizen-oriented media bring along considerations about the own concept of democracy in modern societies, the role of the state in the citizenship concept consolidation, the popular longing for a more participant society, the process of public opinion formation and the function of the new technologies in the globalization context. Though, among these questions, some paradoxes can be found: the dreamed well-being state is not the one of the citizenship since the news agencies manipulate everywhere, the information which reaches the individuals; the so defending social media responsability in the public opinion formation, hides in fact its use to fit the citizen in the capitalist system logic; popular participation in media increases as citizen’s participation in society decreases.
