The Discovery of Learning: an education project focused on bearers of chronic renal insufficiency

The study in question intends to make out an evaluation of a Project called Descoberta do Aprender (Discovery of learning), specifically designed to Cronical Kidney insufficiency patients. It was established by the University of Fortaleza, in April, 2000, through the vice-Extension Rectory, having as partners: Kidney Diseases Clinics (IDR) and the Institute of Kidney (IR). This Project aims to offer phsychological and pedagogic help to children, teenagers and adults, of both sexes, who suffer from the referred disease and keep on under hemodialitic treatment, without any chance of attending classes in a regular school. Another point in this approaching is to create conditions for the acceptance of the disease and limitations brought up from it. They were recognized three basic themes as a result of three patients’ interview: the importance of the Project, the relationship with the pedagogical team and the influence of the Project in patients’ daily life. This qualitative research suggest items for a reflection about what is behind the fact of being either a teenager adult, or a child who had their hopes blocked by Cronical Kidney Insufficiency and its implications.
