Abstract

The research done at Dendê Comumnunuty about the social projects of the University od Fortaleza is aimed at studying the teaching and learning activities in the area of non-formal education that the Vice-Rectorship of Extension and University Community develops for serving specific needs of the poverty-stricken population. A theoretical framework provides the basis for analyzing the data gathered during field research, which involved coordinators of undergraduate programs, students from UNIFOR, people and leaders of the community. The data analyzed, based on concepts of social responsability and sustainable development, point out that the work done by the Vice-Rectorship of Extension at the University of Fortaleza is a strong pillar that maintains the University in its scientific-educational tasks, generates systematized knowledge, forms competente professionals, offers services of public interest and legitimates its social and educational function in society.
