Abstract

The high index of people that need splint can be evidenced in the several segments of health care in the whole country and, it has not been different in the Nucleus of Medical Assistance Integrated (NAMI)/UNIFOR. The high cost of the materials currently used becomes unviable the acquisition of these devices for the great portion of the population, not very privileged economically, thus allowing the patients’ pathology as soon as is developed freely. To minimize this problem, it is being researched the making of alternative splint using a thermosetting polymer/glass fiber composite. Patient of NAMI, users of the resting splint and dorsal resting splint positioning models, were selected and they answered the questionnaires after 15 days of use of the devices. Statistical analyses had revealed the necessity of improvements. Using software SAP 2000, both models were submitted to the computational simulation searching to characterize the stress distribution, making possible to remove material of the areas mechanically not very requested turning splinting lightness, discrete and comfortable.
