I, my Name, my Territory: A Clinical Action with “Street Kids”

Abstract

Ruptures, violences, violation of human rights, drastic losses, drug trafficking, sexual exploitation, crimes, wandering... It’s in the plot of these factors that it takes form the complex reality of the social segregation of thousands of children and adolescents who wander in the streets, houses, institutions, revealing the perverse context that strives to erase all “street kids” human features. This article results from an outreach project that aimed at providing, through an operative group, a space for the collective construction about the proper names, the appropriation of the subject and the territory for teenagers in situation of psychological and social vulnerability. Anchored in the psychoanalytic theoretical framework, the clinical action as well as the construction of this text, aimed at highlighting the lives of the children and adolescents, the psychic functions of the proper name and the territory, understanding them as constitutives of psychic places and spaces of belonging and recognition for subjects of desire, in spite of desubjectivization and the mark of exclusion that the name “street kids” carries.

Paula Cristina Monteiro de Barros, Catholic University of Pernambuco, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil

Graduated in Psychology from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (2003); Specialization in Psychoanalytically Oriented Clinical Psychology from the Center for Research in Psychoanalysis and Language, in partnership with Unicamp-SP (2006); Master in Clinical Psychology from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (2009); PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Catholic University of Pernambuco in co-tutelle with the Doctorat de Recherche en Psychopathologie et Psychanalyse of the Université Paris Diderot / Paris 7 (2015). Has worked in Clinical Psychology since 2003 and worked in Social Assistance in clinical-institutional care for children and adolescents experiencing homelessness, as well as with families in situations of social vulnerability, conducting research on these topics. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at UNICAP (undergraduate and graduate programs in Psychology) and a member of the research group Fundamental Psychopathology and Psychoanalysis. Member of the CNPQ research group titled "Psychoanalysis and Interlocutions: clinic, politics, and culture".
