Abstract

This article is organized around the question presented by Lacan in his Seminar, book 18 – On a discourse that might not be a semblance: from where is the truth questioned? Starting from a methodological proposal of literature review, we resorted to the Lacanian route concerning the notion of truth in his teaching, which led him to such questioning. For this, we take as a guideline the recognition of two main paradigms: the structural anthropological and linguistic, present in the 1950s and 1960s; and the logical-mathematical paradigm, highlighted in the 1970s. In the 1950s and 1960s, we found the truth linked to the negativity of the movement of desire. Already in the 1970s, truth becomes, on the one hand, a place within the discursive structure; and, on the other hand, a semi-sayer, whose model is that of the enigma. In this way, we identify that Lacan places the truth as a problem of language that centralizes the dimension of the enunciation supported by the semblant. Therefore, the idea of a speech that was not a semblance appears as a reading key to interrogate the truth.
