Signification de la vie à l'âge adulte émergent: Contributions à la psychologie du développement

Résumé

L'âge adulte émergent désigne la période de développement humain entre l'adolescence et l'âge adulte, dont les individus âgés de 18 à 29 ans font partie. Les principales caractéristiques de l'âge adulte émergent sont l'exploration de l'identité, l'instabilité, la concentration sur soi, le sentiment d'ambivalence et la période des possibilités. En raison des difficultés et des défis de cette période, la santé mentale des adultes émergents doit être promue. L'un des moyens de contribuer positivement à l'augmentation et au maintien de la santé mentale de cette population est le développement d'un sens à la vie. Cette étude théorique visait à présenter l'importance du sens à la vie pour le développement sain des adultes émergents et à contribuer aux discussions sur cette thématique à la lumière de la psychologie du développement. À cette fin, les éléments suivants sont présentés et discutés: la définition, l'importance, les spécificités de l'âge adulte émergent dans le contexte brésilien, les implications du sens à la vie pour la santé mentale des adultes émergent, ainsi que les études sur le sens à la vie dans cette période. Les résultats de la recherche présentés indiquent que la présence d'un sens à la vie chez les adultes émergents est liée aux processus de croissance personnelle, à la réalisation de soi, et au fonctionnement mental positif; aussi que la promotion du sens à la vie dans cette population peut renforcer l'engagement envers leur propre vie et protéger contre les comportements à risque. Il est suggéré que des interventions tenant compte des spécificités de l'âge adulte émergent dans le contexte brésilien, en mettant l'accent sur le sens à la vie, soient menées afin de contribuer à la prévention et à la promotion de la santé mentale dans cette population.
