				<p>Cet article a pour objectif de discuter de l’écriture comme rature qui marque le corps du sujet, à partir de l’œuvre littéraire de Clarice Lispector Água Viva. Notre proposition était d’articuler la lettre et l’écriture sous les perspectives du trou dans le savoir et aussi comme producteurs d’un effet de jouissance, en prenant Água Viva comme interlocuteur de cette écriture littorale. Pour cela, nous avons abordé le concept psychanalytique de la lettre chez Lacan, suivant la logique du signifiant, qui ne se limite pas aux classifications, mais glisse dans son sens. L’œuvre de Clarice servira de guide pour cette “compréhension de tout le corps”. Afin d’approfondir notre analyse, nous avons interrogé les concepts de savoir et de jouissance en les reliant à l’œuvre littéraire, en mettant en évidence des convergences et des similarités possibles entre la théorie psychanalytique et la littérature. L’“antilivre” de Clarice Água Viva peut guider la compréhension de la lettre dans la mesure où il échappe aux classifications des genres littéraires, finissant par définir sa propre fiction, sa vérité pas-toute. Ainsi, il fait bord avec le trou dans le savoir et provoque un effet de jouissance dans sa rature.</p>

		<p>Neste trabalho pretendemos apresentar o caminho desenvolvido em uma pesquisa de mestrado que buscou articular psicanálise e literatura intitulada Letra como Litoral de Água Viva: Reflexões Psicanalíticas Sobre a Escrita em Clarice Lispector e o Gênero. Nossa proposta foi discorrer sobre o conceito de letra lacaniano por uma perspectiva poética, usando como objeto a obra clariceana Água Viva. Seguimos com uma leitura psicanalítica que nos permitiu passear pelas palavras, deslizando pelos sentidos e significantes, como um método de leitura de textos.</p>
		<p>Trouxemos a obra Água Viva, de Clarice Lispector, enquanto uma escrita, uma letra, que escreve uma existência para si mesmo. Nosso intuito foi atentar para possíveis relações entre a psicanálise de orientação lacaniana e essa escrita de lituraterra. Tivemos o cuidado de não ocupar o lugar pedagógico do ensino que formula um dizer todo sobre a obra, mas mostrarmos o litoral entre Clarice e Lacan. Nesse encontro heterogêneo, colocamo-nos na margem que se ondula no entre. Não se trata de delimitar saber sobre um ou outro, mas deixar surgir algo da experiência com a escrita.</p>
		<p>Essa obra foi selecionada, dentre tantas outras possíveis, por ser um romance sem romance, onde a autora faz da palavra uma pirueta. O eu apresenta-se sem nome e rejeita a lógica dada a priori pela classificação: “que mal porém tem eu me afastar da lógica? Estou lidando com a matéria-prima. Estou atrás do que fica atrás do pensamento. Inútil querer me classificar: eu simplesmente escapulo não deixando, gênero não me pega mais” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 13).</p>
		<p>Em Água Viva “o que falo nunca é o que te falo e sim outra coisa. Capta essa coisa que me escapa e, no entanto, vivo dela e estou à tona de brilhante escuridão” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 14). Foi justamente por falar do que se escapa, das entrelinhas onde habita o sujeito que escolhemos essa obra.</p>
		<p>Com esses trechos, podemos destacar essa escrita que não prende e não se deixa apreender em rótulos e classificações. Partimos, portanto, de duas vertentes do ensino lacaniano sobre a letra: o saber e o gozo para contornar esse conceito sem cair na definição. Pensamos no saber em sua relação com o simbólico, com base no pressuposto lacaniano do inconsciente estruturado como uma linguagem para articular os campos do simbólico. Como a letra de Água Viva pode ser vista como “entre”, borda, litoral? Uma pergunta sem resposta definida, a qual nos propomos teorizar no decorrer desse trabalho. Para tanto, iniciamos desenvolvendo o conceito de letra em Lacan, conjuntamente aos campos do simbólico e do real. A letra “desenhada”, bordejando o gozo e o saber, e, logo em seguida, articulamos este conceito na escrita de Água Viva, pontilhando literatura e psicanálise.</p>
		<p>Para os conceitos de letra e escrita, na teoria lacaniana, partimos do capítulo Lituraterra, presente no Seminário, livro 18: De um discurso que não fosse do semblante. Usamos também outros autores que falam sobre a letra e a escrita, como Ram Mandil (2010), para compreendermos melhor os conceitos saber e gozo, relacionando-os à obra escolhida, destacando algumas convergências e possíveis similaridades entre a teoria psicanalítica e a literatura.</p>
		<p>Primeiramente, falamos sobre o furo no saber, a partir de alguns trechos do livro que destacam a palavra “sem sentido”. Em um segundo momento, discutiu-se sobre os efeitos de gozo produzidos na relação do sujeito e da escrita, fazendo uma ponte com alguns pensamentos de Roland <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes (2015</xref>). Por fim, realizamos alguns possíveis deslizamentos significantes de “ficção” e “gênero”, articulando literatura e psicanálise. Usamos como subtítulo algumas citações do livro em questão, como uma forma de destacar a escrita em articulação com os tópicos trazidos da psicanálise.</p>
		<p>Primeiramente, reconhecemos que o saber que a psicanálise oferece, não limitado nem consolidado na resolução edípica, é fragmentado e incompleto. Assim, e segundo, como sugere <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Freud (1933/1996c</xref>, p. 143), a quem deseja saber mais, que “indaguem da própria experiência de vida dos senhores, ou consultem os poetas, ou aguardem até que a ciência possa dar-lhes informações mais profundas e mais coerentes”.</p>
		<p>O saber é, por natureza, fragmentado, e esse é um dos pressupostos do nosso trabalho. A letra e as escritas de Água Viva e de gênero são relações criadas para continuarmos pensando as questões da vida mental para além das convenções da anatomia, da sociologia ou dos gêneros literários. Entrecruzamos os poetas com os novos estudos da psicanálise e das ciências sociais, sempre destacando o pressuposto do não todo. Para além da consulta aos poetas ou aos cientistas, o saber deste trabalho continuará incompleto e fragmentário, porque aponta para o que no sujeito não se complementa, faz falta, e é causa de desejo.</p>
		<sec>
			<title>“A loucura é vizinha da mais cruel sensatez”</title>
			<p>Imagine uma praia qualquer. Mar e areia, a parte seca em contraste com a úmida, o desencontro das duas. Talvez complementares, mas heterogêneos entre si, o litoral se forma dessa mistura sobreposta e visivelmente separada. Com essa imagem em mente, seguiremos discutindo sobre o que complementa sem se tornar um. A diferença que distingue e faz o singular, que permite o desencontro que une e separa ao mesmo tempo.</p>
			<p>Clarice Lispector carregava esse ar de estrangeirismo e diferença, independentemente de sua nacionalidade. Quando questionada sobre sua nacionalidade, respondia que pertencia ao Brasil. Adotou a língua, os costumes, a nacionalidade brasileira, e mesmo assim, seu ar de mistério a acompanhava. Sua extimidade vinha de outro lugar, diferente dos demais, não se encaixava em classificações. Não gostava de superficialidades, tinha um ar misterioso, quase impenetrável. Sua escrita, para muitos, incompreensível, não estava na ordem lógica da compreensão, mas do nonsense. Entrevistada por Júlio Lerner para a TV Cultura, em 1977, chega a dizer “suponho que me entender não é uma questão de inteligência e sim de sentir, de entrar em contato. Ou toca, ou não toca”.</p>
			<p>Neste lugar de êxtimo, nenhuma definição cabe. Talvez essa impossibilidade de classificação seja o que a define melhor. Carlos Drummond de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Andrade (2014</xref>, p. 71) fez dela poema: “Clarice, veio de um mistério e partiu para outro (...) não foi um lugar-comum, carteira de identidade, retrato. O mais puro retrato de Clarice só se pode encontrá-lo atrás da nuvem (...) fascinava-nos, apenas. Deixamos para compreendê-la mais tarde”.</p>
			<p>A compreensão fica para mais tarde, primeiro vem o que fica atrás da nuvem, do pensamento, esse mistério em forma de mulher, escritora, jornalista, mãe, judia, dona de casa, estrangeira, ou qualquer outra nomeação. Distanciava-se do relato pessoal, não seguia o caráter autobiográfico, queria dizer do humano “não vou ser autobiográfica. Quero ser bio” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
			<p>Amadora da escrita, estrangeira da terra, liberta pelas palavras. Suas obras carregam esse ar de mistério e profundidade. Para nosso trabalho escolhemos Água Viva, romance sem romance, que não cabe em classificação literária, fica no êxtimo. Dentro e fora, esse livro chega até a ser descrito pela própria autora como um “antilivro”, vai contra as normas literárias, não segue regras.</p>
			<p>O litoral, diferente da fronteira, revela a heterogeneidade do que o compõe. Entre a fluidez do mar e da areia, no vai e vem das ondas, a diferença aparece. Lacan usa a metáfora do litoral para falar da letra. Para ele, a letra desenha o litoral entre o furo no saber e o efeito de gozo, ela faz borda, quase como um contorno que impede de cair, mas que também destaca que ali há uma falta. Falaremos mais sobre isso no decorrer deste trabalho.</p>
			<p>Já que vamos falar da obra Água Viva, pensamos em trazer a figura marinha também como representação de uma escrita fluida em sua estrutura. Animal transparente, sem forma definida, não tem uma estrutura óssea fixa, é quase todo água, beleza que precisa ser admirada de longe, perto demais pode ser perigosa. Podemos, então, relacionar essa imagem com o furo no saber, não se pode tocar, pegar pelas mãos e enquadrar em algum conceito, ela é fluidez e escapa.</p>
			<p>No que diz respeito à obra, talvez Clarice tenha se inspirado nesse ser marinho para tentar dizer de sua escrita, assim, quem tenta prendê-la nas classificações toma um choque. Não importa se físico ou metafórico, o sujeito é chocado ao ser tocado de alguma forma. O elemento do estranhamento está sempre presente. A palavra não é osso rígido, mas água. O sentido é fluido e pode deslizar. A palavra ganha valor ao perder o sentido predeterminado, por ser inalcançável e sempre escapar ao entendimento.</p>
			<p>Freud fundou a psicanálise apostando que “o sujeito não é senhor de sua própria casa”. O controle das ações de si vai até um certo ponto. Tomamos conta da nossa casa, mas não é possível ter total domínio sobre si mesmo. Uma palavra trocada, um sonho estranho, uma ação que diz de um desejo, tudo isso revela o inconsciente. Aquilo que parece um erro acaba revelando um saber não sabido.</p>
			<p>A primeira publicação de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Freud (1895/1996a</xref>) em Estudos Sobre a Histeria, juntamente com Breuer, está situada sobre um certo mistério. As pacientes chegavam com uma doença qualquer - uma tosse que não parava, uma paralisia, ou qualquer outro sintoma corporal - que não tinha nenhuma explicação fisiológica tangível que justificasse aquele sintoma. Contudo, Freud percebeu que havia uma razão escondida nas palavras ditas, uma lógica inconsciente que se relacionava com os sintomas.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>Desde Estudos Sobre a Histeria (1893-5), de Freud e Breuer, a etiologia da neurose surgia relacionada a um ‘não-saber’, traduzido em termos de lacunas na memória dos acontecimentos pregressos. Já nessa época, Freud suspeitava que essas lacunas eram resultado não de um apagamento passivo da memória, mas sim de uma operação que punha em marcha um “não querer saber’’. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 64)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Lacan ao longo de suas obras retoma os textos freudianos A Interpretação dos Sonhos (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Freud, 1900/1996b</xref>), Sobre a Psicopatologia da Vida Cotidiana (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Freud, 1901/1996c</xref>) e Os Chistes e Sua Relação Com o Inconsciente (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Freud, 1905/1996d</xref>) para entender sobre o funcionamento dessa instância psíquica. Com base nas formações de sonhos, chistes, lapsos, atos falhos e sintomáticos, ele percebe que há um sistema que rege essa instância, e, assim, afirma que “o inconsciente é estruturado como uma linguagem”, não tão diferente do que Freud afirma que “o sonho tem a estrutura de uma frase”.</p>
			<p>Essa proposição é fundamental para entender toda a relação do sujeito com as formações inconscientes que aparecem como se não lhe fossem próprias. Essa instância, da qual o sujeito não tem domínio próprio, escancara a falha no “autoconhecimento”. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Descartes (1637/2005)</xref>, declara através da máxima “penso, logo existo”, que a existência está ligada ao pensamento. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan (1972/2012</xref>, p. 112), em contrapartida, atesta que “sou onde não penso”, ou seja, é precisamente onde a razão não alcança que o ser existe.</p>
			<p>Enquanto a filosofia defende o conhecimento de si pela razão, a psicanálise considera o furo no saber, um sujeito incompleto, faltante, que não tem total controle nem conhecimento de si mesmo. Na verdade, pela psicanálise a razão distancia o indivíduo de si mesmo. Na busca de preencher o vazio racionalmente, perde-se de vista o inconsciente, o saber do qual o próprio sujeito não sabe.</p>
			<p>Acontece que na maioria das vezes o sujeito não quer saber do que lhe causa incômodo e o perturba. A palavra da vez no contexto ocidental é o mindset, conjunto de sinapses que te forma, e teoricamente, bastaria trabalhar bem mentalmente para corrigi-las e formá-las da forma que lhe parecesse mais útil, que haveria uma mudança de vida. Na era do neoliberalismo, até a mente é passível de treinamento para atingir o sucesso.</p>
			<p>Nessa lógica de autocontrole e aprimoramento, o saber inconsciente é negligenciado. Todavia, por mais que tente se esquecer da falta e do “estranho em mim”, as formações inconscientes não cessam simplesmente por força de vontade, por um novo hábito ou um novo mindset. Não somos senhores da nossa casa, a consciência não é consciente de tudo, o saber é furado.</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Lacan (1973/2008)</xref> afirma que “eles sabem, os sujeitos. Mas enfim, mesmo assim eles não sabem tudo. No nível desse não-tudo não há senão o Outro a não saber. É o Outro que faz o não-tudo, justamente no que ele é a parte que de-todo-não-sabe nesse não-tudo” (p. 105). Não se pode saber totalmente, por isso a razão é furada, sempre incompleta, faltante. Por mais que se queira cobrir a falta, o sujeito não pode saber tudo.</p>
			<p>Quando escolhemos como subtítulo citar Clarice <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector (1998</xref>) para dizer que “a loucura é vizinha da mais cruel sensatez”, destacamos essa sensatez como uma crueldade que beira a loucura. A racionalidade tem uma função, uma operação e um limite. Tamponar o furo através do conhecimento, ou qualquer outra coisa é permanecer no “não querer saber”, e isso não faz cessar os sonhos, os lapsos, nem aqueles “equívocos” dos sujeitos que causam tanto embaraço.</p>
			<p>Na via contrária, seguimos pela psicanálise juntamente com Clarice, em Água Viva, buscando aquilo que não se pode alcançar. Querendo captar “essa coisa que me escapa e, no entanto, vivo dela” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 14) num mergulho pelas profundezas de si, em contato com um saber que é uma pergunta sem resposta.</p>
			<p>A cruel sensatez é perceber um único sentido da palavra, estamos nos distanciando dela, e nos aproximando do saber furado. O furo remete à má-apreensão, ao equívoco. A palavra não tem um só sentido, ela tem materialidade. Clarice percebe a palavra como flecha, pedra, manipulável. O furo é desencontro, mas o desencontro é a única forma de suportar a vida em cheio” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 70).</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>, p. 64) lembra de uma afirmação lacaniana que diz “o inconsciente não é perder a memória, mas, antes de tudo, um não lembrar-se daquilo que se sabe”. Há um saber do qual o sujeito não quer dizer, mas se revela pelas manifestações inconscientes. Em Psicopatologia da Vida Cotidiana (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Freud, 1901/1996c</xref>), Freud descreve relatos clínicos do que chama de “atos sintomáticos” e “equívocos” cometidos pelos seus pacientes, que revelam uma segunda intenção, desejo inconsciente.</p>
			<p>Sobre esses atos sintomáticos e equívocos, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Freud (1901/1996c</xref>, p. 199) destaca que eles “expressam algo de que o próprio agente não suspeita neles, e que, em regra geral, não pretende comunicar, e sim guardar para si”. Um saber que não se quer ter conhecimento, causa tamanho desconforto que o sujeito prefere silenciá-lo. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) lembra que, para falar desse saber em suspensão, Lacan faz referência à história bíblica do rei Baltazar, que recebe uma mensagem na parede com escritos pedindo decifração.</p>
			<p>A história conta que em um jantar real, aparece uma mão que escreve na parede uma frase que o rei não consegue decifrar, um enigma. Frente a essa incógnita, Baltazar resolve chamar um intérprete capaz de decifrar a mensagem e convida Daniel para explicar o escrito. É interessante relacionar ao sujeito que sonha algo que não compreende e direciona essa mensagem ao analista, em busca de uma elucidação.</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) afirma que os escritos sobre o muro são um “saber em suspensão” e podem ser vistos de duas formas, como enigma do sujeito, o qual cabe a ele responder o significado, e a outra seria supor que está em outra pessoa o saber, que o Outro vai poder me explicar, ele detém esse conhecimento. Quando se deposita esse saber no Outro, anula-se a busca de si, o encontro do sujeito com seu furo. Aqueles escritos na parede eram uma mensagem para o rei Baltazar e ele não conseguiu entender, precisando ir ao intérprete, buscar em outro a resposta. O furo se apresenta e logo se busca tamponá-lo. As mensagens precisam ser decifradas, nem que sejam por outros.</p>
			<p>Contraditoriamente, é pelo mal apreendido, pelo equívoco que se encontra o saber do qual a psicanálise fala. “É por tratar-se de um lugar que difere de toda apreensão do sujeito que um saber é liberado, já que ele só se entrega por meio do que, para o sujeito, é mal apreendido” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 67).</p>
			<p>Seguindo essa compreensão do sujeito que mergulha no desconhecido de si mesmo, faremos uma ponte com alguns escritos clariceanos. Pelo mal apreendido, o escrito enigmático, vamos nos deixar ser invadidos pelo que não se interpreta, saber que não se sabe, mas que continua em busca da “verdadeira palavra que foi até agora intocada” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 11).</p>
			<p>Para articular Água Viva com esses conceitos da psicanálise, faremos uma aproximação da obra, pensando-a como um “saber em suspensão” não passível de interpretação, mas que aponta para um saber não-todo. Nossa postura frente à literatura enquanto orientados pela psicanálise é um tanto delicada de se definir. Seguiremos, então, a lógica dada por Lacan ao incluir Joyce em seus ensinos.</p>
			<disp-quote>
				<p>O que realmente parece indicar uma perspectiva distinta para o encontro entre psicanálise e obra literária é constatar que jamais conseguiríamos, por exemplo, destacar o passo dado por Lacan em direção à renovação da noção de sintoma da leitura que fez da obra de Joyce. Leitura, aliás, que sofre os efeitos da obra, uma vez que a elaboração da noção de sintoma é toda feita por um Lacan que permite ‘joycianizar-se’, o que se traduz na maneira como seu texto se deixa moldar pelos mesmos procedimentos e dispositivos adotados pelo escritor. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 20)</p>
			</disp-quote>
			<p>Uma certa influência do autor, marca de sua escrita, um “deixar-se moldar” por Clarice, será nossa perspectiva nessa tarefa de elucidar os conceitos psicanalíticos, aproximando-nos dos escritos clariceanos. Letra, escrita, e, mais especificamente nesse momento, o furo no saber, o litoral que contorna, por um mergulho na Água Viva que borbulha no desconhecido. “Dessa experiência do encontro uns farão poesia, outros, psicanálise” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco, 2011</xref>, p. 66).</p>
			<p>Clarice não segue o formato comum, nem parece preocupada com o entendimento do texto, mas em provocar questionamentos. Em Água Viva usa uma linguagem única, as palavras saem do sentido comum e tomam estatuto de coisa. O significado é contorcido na forma que melhor, ou pior, couber a quem o lê. “Meu esforço: trazer agora o futuro para já. Movo-me dentro de meus instintos fundos que se cumprem às cegas. Sinto então que estou nas proximidades de fontes, lagoas e cachoeiras, todas de águas abundantes. E eu livre” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30). No instante-já, a liberdade de águas abundantes. Nessa mistura de poesia e psicanálise, a procura pela escrita do inalcançável.</p>
			<p>Aqui, agora, e ainda assim, algo escapa. A busca é pela profundidade, dizer aquilo que revela o próprio furo, não se pode dizer tudo. “De-todo-não-sabe”, algo escapa, o que se diz não é exatamente o que se pensa ouvir, tem outro sentido. “Ouve-me, ouve meu silêncio. O que falo nunca é o que falo e sim outra coisa. Quando digo ‘águas abundantes’ estou falando da força de corpo nas águas do mundo. Capta essa outra coisa de que na verdade falo porque eu mesma não posso” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30).</p>
			<p>Essa outra coisa, aquilo que não se compreende, expressão do silêncio que busca dizer a verdade. Mas nela, na verdade, não se pode chegar. Se lembrarmos do conto A Carta Roubada de Edgar Alan Poe, que <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B16">Lacan (1971/2009</xref>) usa para falar da letra, podemos destacar o momento em que, enquanto os policiais seguiam uma descrição dada para procurar a carta, Dupin considerou a carta como matéria e, portanto, passível de mudança. A carta poderia ter sido modificada de várias formas, e foi assim que pôde encontrá-la, diferente daqueles que se detiveram à descrição inicial.</p>
			<p>“Escrevo-te este fac-símile de livro, o livro de quem não sabe escrever; mas é que no domínio mais leve da fala quase não sei falar. Sobretudo falar-te por escrito” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 54). “Não saber” escrever, ou no caso do leitor, “não saber” ler, é a condição para que se possa ouvir esse texto. Não saber. O incômodo de não compreender exatamente o que se está querendo dizer, o que aquilo significa é o propósito dessa leitura de um “saber em suspensão”.</p>
			<p>O conceito lacaniano de letra afirma que ela é como um litoral que desenha uma borda no furo do saber. Pelo fracasso, na verdade que não se chega, visto que é passível de ultrapassar a mensagem simplesmente. A letra é, então, percebida como uma “estrutura essencialmente localizada no significante” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">Lacan, 1957/1998</xref>, p. 505). O significante desliza, da ostra, pode-se chegar à música, à cachoeira, ao perfume.</p>
			<p>A partir da metáfora podemos relacionar a dimensão da letra, como significante despojado de qualquer significação. Quando o significado depura no fim do poço, o significante pode emergir, um desconectado do outro, ou seja, a palavra precisa ser jogada no fundo do poço e perder seu significado para que ela possa ser litoral.</p>
			<p>“Mas há também o mistério impessoal que é o it: eu tenho o impessoal dentro de mim” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30). O it pode ser nada, pode ser tudo, e não importa qual sentido seja dado porque a escrita, e também a leitura, convoca esse impessoal dentro de si, que é mais pessoal que qualquer outra coisa. “Que estou fazendo ao te escrever? Estou tentando fotografar o perfume” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 54). Tentar dizer o impossível, contornar o furo, isso é escrita.</p>
			<p>A escrita é despejo e construção. No papel se deixa algo, ao passo que se faz sujeito em busca do saber que escapa. “Não gosto é quando pingam limão nas minhas profundezas e fazem com que eu me contorça toda. Os fatos da vida são o limão na ostra? Será que a ostra dorme?” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31).</p>
			<p>A via é a da incompreensão, busca pelo que faz contorcer como o limão na ostra. “O que não vejo não existe? O que mais me emociona é o que não vejo, contudo existe. Porque então tenho o mundo desconhecido que existe plenamente e cheio de rica saliva” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). Aqui trouxemos um pouco do saber que não se sabe, do furo que inquieta o sujeito na via da compreensão. É somente saindo da lógica das classificações que se pode chegar ao saber de si, como sujeitos não-todos donos de nossas próprias casas. Seguiremos agora para pensar sobre o efeito de gozo que Lacan usa para falar da letra.</p>
		</sec>
		<sec>
			<title>“Dor é vida exacerbada”</title>
			<p>Para <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Lacan (1973/2008</xref>), a letra é o que faz o litoral entre o gozo e o saber, dois campos heterogêneos como mar e areia, estrangeiros entre si. “A letter, a litter”, a carta, a letra, o lixo. A letra não tem só uma mensagem enigmática que carrega algo do sujeito. Ela também tem uma materialidade, de ser lixo. Nesse momento, vamos nos deter sobre esse efeito que a letra provoca, sua potência de ser rasgada, destruída, jogada fora.</p>
			<p>O texto não só carrega uma mensagem, mas carrega uma rasura. A caligrafia que se escreve com o corpo, uma certa liberdade de pode fazer qualquer coisa com aquilo que se apresenta. “Estou dando a você a liberdade. Antes rompo o saco de água. Depois corto o cordão umbilical. E você está vivo por conta própria. E quando nasço, fico livre. Esta é a base da minha tragédia” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 35).</p>
			<p>A água correndo pelos montes carrega consigo restos de matéria, cada vez que passa novamente carrega mais matéria. Forma um buraco, um rasgo, um escrito. A escrita que destacamos aqui é essa formada pelas rasuras do que foi arrastado. Diferentemente de um texto polido, dentro dos formatos da literatura, a lituraterra se forma disso que vira resto, lixo, do que faz marca na terra.</p>
			<p>Água Viva é lituraterra na medida em que provoca efeito de gozo. O rastro deixado pelo mar na areia, os sulcos abertos na terra, apontam que algo foi rasgado e retirado dali, mostram a falta que não se pode. No conceito de lituraterra o efeito de gozo é provocado na rasura. A terra levada pela água escreve algo no sujeito, o escrito é feito mesmo no que dele se perde.</p>
			<p>Terra de lituras, de rasuras, sulcos abertos, grãos levados pela água. Revela algo de uma impossibilidade, uma palavra escrita esvaziada de sentido passa a ser marca, efeito. Essa escrita da qual falamos é movimento, sulcos do chão ao papel. A escrita que toca no ponto de gozo faz marca de rasura. “Escrever para mim é frustrador: ao escrever lido com o impossível” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p.72).</p>
			<p>Com isso, não estamos nos referindo a qualquer texto, mas aquele que é um ato, escrita que não acaba em si mesma, mas continua no leitor. Não cessa de não se inscrever. Alcança um ponto de impossibilidade, do que não se pode dizer completamente porque não é finito. A arte tem essa capacidade de elevar o sujeito a perceber outra perspectiva além da sua comum, e a partir disso, rasgar o véu daquilo que antes velava. Mas isso para aquele que se permite ouvir de corpo inteiro, fora da via da compreensão.</p>
			<p>Na pintura “Os embaixadores”, de Hans Holbein, o Jovem (1533, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">Google Arts &amp; Culture, 2023</xref>), estão presentes diversos elementos simbólicos de riqueza e status social, mas no canto da tela aparece um borrão. Há na tela uma caveira que só pode ser vista por outra perspectiva, é preciso mudar o campo de visão para enxergar a caveira. Assim o pintor dá destaque exatamente para essa propriedade da arte, de poder revelar o que se quer esconder nas entrelinhas.</p>
			<p>

			</p>
			<p>A caveira persiste mesmo na pintura mais elegante, como símbolo da finitude, da contradição entre tantos elementos de realeza, a finitude da vida. O real que continua a aparecer e que não tem em si significado nenhum, ainda que esteja banhado de significantes, como é o caso dessa tela. “O real é aquilo com que vocês se deparam, justamente por não poderem escrever em matemática seja o que for. O real é o que concerne a que, no que é a função mais comum, vocês se banham na significância, mas não podem segurá-los todos ao mesmo tempo, os significantes” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 29).</p>
			<p>Ana Maria <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Valle (2007</xref>) diz que a arte tem essa função de apontar a existência do real, ou seja, provocar as bases fixas dos sujeitos e revelar outros ângulos. “Um dos valores essenciais da arte consiste em abalar o sujeito do seu cotidiano. Abalar suas teias garantidoras de sentido. Retirar o sujeito de sua rotina diária, semanal, tentando elevar sua percepção. Apontar para um algo a mais, o qual ele nunca havia pensado antes” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Valle, 2007</xref>, p. 122).</p>
			<p>Provocar aquele que se permite entrar em contato com a obra, ver além do que está ali posto e sair do comum são habilidades da arte. Não é simplesmente por uma beleza ou um prazer de ver, mas pela provocação do que não se entende, que lhe é estranho, incompreensível.</p>
			<p>A arte aponta para o real, os escritos também. Retomando nossa obra de destaque, Água Viva, queremos realçar a potência do texto que provoca efeitos de gozo, que aponta para o real do impossível. Clarice não escreve objetivando um perfeito entendimento ou encadeamento lógico de ideias. A leitura é para se experimentar. “O que estou te escrevendo não é para se ler - é para se ser” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 37).</p>
			<p>Sobre essa escrita, lembramos que <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Lacan (1973/2008</xref>) difere a literatura do conceito que chama de lituraterra. Para ele os manuais de literatura tentam escrever algo do mito para esconder o real. Nesse momento defende a promoção do escrito em contraposição à fala, como fosse a distinção entre letra e significante - as dimensões de lettre como mensagem e materialidade que falamos.</p>
			<p>Há uma dupla heterogênea, e a letra faz o litoral entre esses dois campos distintos que estamos falando - o furo no saber e o efeito de gozo. A questão do gozo está articulada à materialidade da letra. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) afirma que “a passagem da função mensageira da carta para sua natureza de objeto (...) não se faz sem uma descontinuidade no saber articulado” (p. 49). A descontinuidade se apresenta nas duas imagens que Lacan usa para falar da lituraterra, a dimensão de litoral, e a ideia de rasura, do escrito como um ravinamento de águas, como assim procede Lispector.</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Lacan (1973/2008)</xref> traz o conceito de lituraterra apoiado na linguagem, na noção de letra como essencial para a promoção do escrito. “Tomarei emprestado os traços do que me permite, por uma economia da linguagem, esboçar o que leva a minha ideia de que a literatura talvez esteja virando literatura” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Lacan, 1973/2008</xref>, p. 111).</p>
			<p>Assim, a lituraterra é pensada a partir dessas duas outras figuras que acompanham a noção de letra como dimensão essencial do escrito (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 49). Essa ideia de promoção do escrito, da letra como distinta do significante, portadora de uma materialidade além de uma mensagem. “A ideia de rasura, bem como a do escrito como ‘sulco’, compõe, junto com a metáfora do ‘litoral’, o tripé sobre o qual Lacan busca assentar a letra nesse momento do seu percurso” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 49).</p>
			<p>A lituraterra, portanto, relaciona-se com os efeitos de gozo, com aquilo que é sentido, experimentado no corpo. A marca da falta é intrínseca à condição humana, o vazio e o sem-sentido acompanham os sujeitos, apesar dos esforços de tamponá-los. “Nunca é o impossível. Gosto de nunca. Também gosto de sempre. Que há entre nunca e sempre que nos liga tão indiretamente e intimamente?” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 36). Entre o nunca e o sempre, o impossível com que tentamos escrever.</p>
			<p>Pela perspectiva da escrita literária que é lituraterra, faz rasuras e revela o real, ao invés de escondê-lo, podemos perceber Água Viva também como a litter. Com sua escrita, Lispector transporta o leitor para um encontro com isso que falamos dos restos de si levados pelo mar, para ver a caveira de Hans Holberman. “Quando se vê, o ato de ver não tem forma - o que se vê às vezes tem forma, às vezes não. O ato de ver é inefável” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 89).</p>
			<p>Estamos discutindo o conceito de gozo desde sua formulação, no mais além do princípio do prazer, que remete a uma satisfação pulsional, não necessariamente prazerosa. Quando escolhemos “dor é vida exacerbada” como subtítulo para este momento é pensando Lacan com Clarice, é dizer que há no gozo uma contradição, uma certa impossibilidade de satisfação completa que se repete e não cessa de não se inscrever. Nesse momento, partiremos de Lispector com Água Viva e vamos à Barthes para falar do real que se apresenta, do prazer e do efeito de gozo do texto. Articularmos a noção de lituraterra e de escrita com a noção de escritura que Barthes elucida.</p>
			<p>Roland <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes (2015</xref>) em O Prazer do Texto discute sobre o texto que evoca o leitor e lhe deseja, provoca. Nisso há uma distinção de prazer, saindo de um prazer subjetivo - do sujeito que escreve e lê - para um prazer objetal, de uma matéria que se dá a ler e escrever. A escrita que se afasta do valor da significância e entra na materialidade. As rupturas promovem prazer. Nas rasuras está o gozo. Chamado por ele nessa tradução de “fruição”, “uma maneira de cortar, de romper o discurso sem o tornar insensato” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 14).</p>
			<p>Pelos cortes, irrupções de discurso algo é passado para o leitor no tom de uma provocação. Para ele, “o prazer da leitura vem evidentemente de certas rupturas” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 11). O efeito de gozo do qual falamos pode estar relacionado com essa escritura que faz rupturas. “É com uma alegria tão profunda. É uma tal aleluia. Aleluia, grito eu, aleluia que se funde com o mais escuro uivo humano da dor de separação, mas é o grito de felicidade diabólica. Porque ninguém me prende mais” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 9).</p>
			<p>A aleluia é também dor, separação. Não estar presa implica perda também. Ninguém prende mais, não há gênero que pegue, é inútil querer classificar. No grito, uma felicidade diabólica. A impossibilidade na ambivalência entre a dor e a aleluia se mostra nessa escrita do que não se pode escrever. O indizível permanece, mas ao dar palavra, algo se contorna.</p>
			<p>O real da ruptura, resto de palavra, distancia a escrita da literatura e a aproxima da lituraterra, ao passo que é feita de rasura. Para Lacan, a escrita não é simplesmente o resultado da junção de palavras no papel, não é um texto qualquer, mas carrega o real consigo. “A ideia que faço do escrito é o retorno do recalcado” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 25). E sabemos que o que retorna é o real que insiste. Assim falamos de uma escrita que não se pode recalcar e, por isso, retorna.</p>
			<p>Uma escritura que se faz nas rupturas provoca uma inquietação, que também é prazer. “O que te escrevo não vem de manso, subindo aos poucos até o auge para depois ir morrendo de manso. Não: o que te escrevo é de fogo como olhos em brasa” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). Seguindo esse encontro da escritura de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes (2015</xref>) e a escrita no ensino lacaniano que temos discutido, é perceptível uma aproximação desses autores no que tange esse tema. “No texto de prazer, as forças contrárias não se encontram mais em estado de recalcamento, mas de devir: nada é verdadeiramente antagonista, tudo é plural” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 40).</p>
			<p>Ao falar de escrita, falamos também de letra. As duas noções estão articuladas, mas não como sinônimos, pois como já tratamos, a letra, litoral entre gozo e saber, é esse pas de sens (sem sentido), esvaziado de sentido, e por isso pode conferir um passo de sentido. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco (2011</xref>, p. 157) arrisca uma hipótese que alguns escritores podem, “através do arranjo de letras que constitui a escrita, promover um pas de sens. Às vezes um verdadeiro passo de sentido, que reescreve todo o sentido de uma escrita e de uma vida”.</p>
			<p>Sobre essa relação entre o autor, a escrita e a letra, há uma diferenciação do que é o autor enquanto sujeito e enquanto escritor. Clarice mesmo se distanciava das suas obras o possível, afirmando sempre que não se tratava de um desabafo de si, mas um encontro com sua humanidade. Como se, ao buscar o intangível, aquilo que não se encontra nem se pode dizer, estivesse escrevendo o pas de sens do qual falamos. “Não vou ser autobiográfica. Quero ser bio” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 35).</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco (2011</xref>) afirma que a escrita não é posterior à fala ou às palavras, de modo que não pode ser completamente independente de um sujeito que ali inscreve, ao mesmo tempo em que este é, pela escrita mesmo, produzido. “Como uma banda de moebius, escrita e sujeito mantêm, assim, uma relação de interioridade/exterioridade que não se opõe um ao outro, mas antes os conjuga, continuamente, em movimentos que aparentemente se alternam” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco, 2011</xref>, p. 65).</p>
			<p>Assim, trazemos em destaque a materialidade e o furo no sentido de uma escritura. “Quero como poder pegar com a mão a palavra. Minhas desequilibradas palavras são o luxo de meu silêncio. Escrevo por acrobáticas e aéreas piruetas - escrevo por profundamente querer falar” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
		</sec>
		<sec>
			<title>“Não encontro a resposta: sou”</title>
			<p>Seguindo nosso raciocínio sobre a obra lispectoriana Água Viva, agora vamos pensar em outra articulação possível dessa escrita pela psicanálise. Pela lógica do significante, percebido pela imagem acústica e não simplesmente o seu sentido comum, faremos alguns deslizamentos, pela classificação literária “ficção” perceber algo do gênero e da ficção do sujeito, a partir de alguns conceitos da psicanálise. Traremos um pouco sobre o pensamento lacaniano de que a verdade tem estrutura de ficção, para pensar o gênero como uma ficção.</p>
			<p>Clarice logo no início de Água Viva declara que “este não é um livro porque não é assim que escreve” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12). A escrita não é uma fabricação, mas uma construção que se faz com o corpo todo. Três anos após sua conclusão, ela não queria liberar para publicação, considerava-o uma obra inacabada e não queria publicá-lo. Apesar disso, teve sua primeira edição lançada em 1973, por Álvaro Pacheco, editor que incentivou Clarice a liberar a impressão do livro.</p>
			<p>Nessa primeira edição havia uma sessão com recadinhos “práticos para o seu tradutor” e uma folha contratual para o leitor, uma espécie de pacto entre autor e leitor. Sônia <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Roncador (1996</xref>) lembra que havia um fragmento quase apagado que dizia: “A forma em si mesma é o seu único conteúdo possível. Conteúdo sem forma não existe”. Na folha de rosto, manuscritos: “Uma pessoa falando”; “Cartas ao mar”; “Este é um anti-livro”; ou ainda “Se você considerar isto aqui mais do que carta, fique ciente que se trata de um anti-livro”.</p>
			<p>O que se rejeita quando a autora da obra a classifica por “anti-livro”? Seria uma busca por ser o oposto? Ou seria uma rejeição à concepção primeira de “livro”? Água Viva diz do que está por trás do pensamento, fora da lógica comum, dos gêneros e classificações. Talvez “anti-livro” tivesse a intenção de preparar o leitor para deixar de lado as expectativas de qualquer outra classificação prévia. Contudo, escrever que “este é um anti-livro”, por mais que sua escrita esteja longe das formatações literárias, não escapa da classificação, ainda há um encaixe literário para o estilo clariceano.</p>
			<p>Na primeira publicação dessa obra, a autora pediu que o livro fosse definido por uma ficção, dado seu caráter metafísico. Assim como fez no “contrato”, queria, logo na classificação, avisar a diferença do seu livro para com os demais. Quase como uma preparação ao leitor para tentar libertá-los das expectativas que seguem às definições. Se chamo de romance, há uma certa expectativa para com a leitura, um formato que precisa seguir. No conto, crônica, poesia ou em qualquer outra classificação, cria-se um formato e o corpo do texto deve se adequar a ele. Ficção foi o gênero escolhido por Clarice, por dar abertura e permitir uma brincadeira com a liberdade de escrever. Solto e desconexo, Água Viva põe em jogo a volatilidade e o peso das palavras.</p>
			<p>Afirmação “é” e negação “anti” em uma mesma frase já destaca a ambivalência presente ao longo do texto. Ao classificar como gênero de ficção ou como um anti-livro, ainda se está conectado à lógica do enquadramento, mesmo que se queira escapar dela. Perceber essa ambivalência é destacar o furo no saber e o efeito de gozo contornados por uma letra que desenha o litoral.</p>
			<p>Clarice fala com o silêncio, faz a palavra voar como se fosse objeto, põe em jogo essa ambivalência da existência humana. Ser anti-livro e ainda estar preso na classificação, harmonicamente desarmonizado. “A harmonia secreta da desarmonia: quero não o que está feito, mas o que tortuosamente ainda se faz. Minhas desequilibradas palavras são o luxo de meu silêncio. Escrevo por acrobáticas e aéreas piruetas - escrevo por profundamente querer falar” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
			<p>Denominar uma obra de “ficção” pode oferecer uma certa liberdade para criar, sem muita formatação literária. Não há uma definição pronta para os personagens, nem se delimita o espaço tempo, como se faz no romance. Água Viva é anti-livro na medida em que busca estar livre dessas amarrações, mas continua sendo livro ainda que tente sair dessa classificação.</p>
			<p>Ficção que retrata uma pintora/escritora que usa a palavra como objeto na tela e no papel, escreve como se fosse uma pintura. Mas, tanto na pintura quanto no papel, escreve como uma amadora, simplesmente “sem regra”. Ainda que longe do que é “comum” na literatura, podemos aproximar esse livro de algumas formulações literárias. Construído por narrativa de prosa poética, há um “eu”, sem nome, que se dirige a um “tu”.</p>
			<p>Sem nome, os narradores podem ser vários e a leitura ocorre como se o leitor recebesse essa carta sem destino. Por não existir um personagem específico, possibilita-se essa identificação com o destinatário, numa mistura entre o que sou eu, o que és tu. “E se digo ‘eu’ é porque não ouso dizer ‘tu’, ou ‘nós’ ou ‘uma pessoa’. Sou obrigada à humildade de me personalizar me apequenando, mas sou o és-tu” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 13).</p>
			<p>Neiva de Souza <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Boeno (2017</xref>) compara o livro a uma “matrioska”, aquelas bonecas russas que cabem uma dentro da outra, em um jogo com os tamanhos, tendo em vista que de uma leitura emerge outra, em uma multiplicidade de relações possíveis com a obra. Para ela, Água Viva retrata essa infinidade de palavras pintadas, como se não houvesse uma lógica sequencial que desse um encadeamento de ideias. A palavra ecoa sem sentido para que faça um sentido no “és-tu”, ou seja, cada sujeito, em sua leitura, gerará um novo sentido.</p>
			<p>Nessa leitura de matrioskas, o livro é plural e remete à uma geracionalidade. Curiosamente, Clarice deu dois outros títulos anteriores ao final, que na primeira versão chamava Atrás do Pensamento: Monólogo Com a Vida (1970-71), e na segunda versão Objeto Gritante (1972). Por fim, foi escolhido Água Viva, para dar a ideia de algo que borbulha. Dar a ideia de movimento em contraposição com a estaticidade das formas literárias. Se pensarmos nas matrioskas, há um movimento quase infinito, que retrata essa pluralidade de significações.</p>
			<p>Sônia <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Roncador (1996</xref>) chega a dizer que o livro parece ser justamente uma poética do ato que perpetua. A personagem-narradora que confessa viver à beira do clímax, da morte, que procura chegar ao it. Com um texto escrito por interrupções, sua narrativa mostra que não quer o feito, mas o que tortuosamente se faz, o instante-já. Ela não quer que se raciocine no texto, mas que se ouça de corpo. Busca o incompreensível e isso pode ser notado pela forma com que escreve, com sentenças curtas que não buscam dar explicação nenhuma.</p>
			<p>Assim, podemos dizer que a obra convida o leitor a dar um mergulho no que borbulha. Longe da estagnação e perto do incomensurável. “A beatitude começa no momento em que o ato de pensar liberou-se da necessidade da forma” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 90). A busca é por estar livre das formas, dos enquadramentos. “Liberdade mesmo - enquanto ato de percepção - não tem forma” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 89).</p>
			<p>Se pensarmos sobre a classificação “ficção” escolhida pela autora para definir esse livro, podemos expandi-la e pensar nela presente em dois sentidos, não só o ficcional comum à literatura, mas também a uma outra espécie de ficção, a fala do sujeito em análise. Entre o dito e o não-dito, bordeando o vazio, a ficção do sujeito se expressa. Essa fala carrega em si outras tantas, subentendidas, como mensagem enigmática guardada nas entrelinhas.</p>
			<p>Ana Maria Vicentini de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Azevedo (2007</xref>) lembra a formulação lacaniana dessa dimensão do subentendido e afirma que “a verdade da dimensão inconsciente deve ser situada nas entrelinhas, justamente entre o dito e o não-dito” (p. 39). De modo que por estar entre linhas, destaca-se a leitura “como um ato, ou seja, a leitura como um procedimento que faz a palavra dobrar-se, retroagir sobre si mesma, seus traços e suas ausências” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Azevedo, 2007</xref>, p. 39).</p>
			<p>Nesse sentido, entre inconsciente e leitura, a fala como um dito de si nas entrelinhas, o sujeito aparece onde não diz completamente. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector (1998</xref>, p. 95) traz algo parecido com isso que estamos discutindo, pois “tudo acaba, mas o que te escrevo continua. O que é bom, muito bom. O melhor ainda não foi escrito. O melhor está nas entrelinhas”. Não foi escrito, não foi dito, é ficção, enigma, constitui o sujeito. A relação entre o exposto e os deslizamentos significantes ali presentes é a relação entre psicanálise e literatura, entre o inconsciente e as letras. Por estar nas entrelinhas, a ficção está na palavra esvaziada de sentido, sua definição, ou interpretação, limita a compreensão.</p>
			<p>“A palavra. A beleza extrema e íntima está nela. Mas é inalcançável - e quando está ao alcance eis que é ilusório porque de novo continua inalcançável” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 72). Não se pode simplesmente dar uma classificação, é preciso uma ficção para não perder. A palavra é inalcançável, tendo em vista que ao acreditar que se alcança, que sabe, aí está a ficção, o furo no saber. Uma escrita que se escreve de corpo todo, lê-se de corpo todo. Não é pela via do raciocínio que atinge a compreensão, mas pela provocação da mensagem enigmática. Assim como foi sua escrita, sua leitura precisa dessa lógica fora da razão e perto do estranhamento. Essa obra, para ser ouvida de corpo como indicou a autora, pede uma leitura diferente, sempre renovada e inacabada. O leitor pode abrir uma página qualquer se deparar, em uma única frase, com algo que o toca profundamente.</p>
			<p>O essencial na obra discutida não está na temática abordada, mas na sua escrita. Há algo que se diz abruptamente, lançado como uma flecha sem saber muito bem o alvo, mas toca em algum ponto que provoca o leitor. “Tudo que te escrevo é tenso. Uso palavras soltas que são em si mesmas um dardo livre: selvagens, bárbaros, nobres decadentes e marginais” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 27).</p>
			<p>Poeticamente, usa as palavras como selvageria. Frases curtas, sem um sequenciamento no raciocínio, mas que são por si mesmas dardos e fogo em brasa. “Esta é uma festa de palavras. Escrevo mais em signos que são mais um gesto que voz” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 24). Como um gesto sem planejamento, “deixo-me acontecer”.</p>
			<p>A escrita tem movimento, a leitura faz uma contorção. Palavras-piruetas que não buscam interpretação, mas são objetos lançados que caem no estranhamento. A palavra alcança outro sentido, longe da representação, do signo saussuriano. Parece que, ao tentar se distanciar da escrita que serve ao outro, Clarice segue a linha em busca da palavra de si. “Quando estranho uma pintura é aí que é pintura. E quando estranho a palavra aí é que ela alcança o sentido. E quando estranho a vida aí é que começa a vida” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 83).</p>
			<p>Cristina Moreira <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B20">Marcos (2013</xref>) afirma que o próprio estilo de escrita da autora desprovido de condução lógica impossibilita a leitura interpretativa, porque esse não é o objetivo. Escreve como que suspendendo palavras, pegando-as como matéria. Escrita caleidoscópica, sua leitura também o é. Fluida, a cada encontro se descobre outra coisa. Água Viva tem sentidos infinitos. Não se busca o encadeamento lógico de ideias e sim “a liberdade de dizer coisas sem nexo como profunda forma de te atingir” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 82).</p>
			<p>Ao escolher o gênero ficção como forma de dar abertura e sair um pouco da literalidade, ainda há uma forma que constitui e por isso não se consegue sair dela, faz parte do seu mito. Clarice Lispector, em Água Viva, busca o que está atrás do pensamento, sair das classificações. “A loucura do invento livre” não é sem precedentes.</p>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Lacan (1995</xref>) discute a estrutura dos mitos e para que eles servem. Nesse seminário, o mito é visto como uma narrativa atemporal que tem caráter de ficção, mas que apresenta uma estabilidade, sugere a noção de uma estrutura. “Essa ficção mantém uma relação singular com alguma coisa que está sempre implicada por trás dela, e da qual ela porta, realmente, a mensagem formalmente indicada, a saber, a verdade. Aí está uma coisa que não pode ser separada do mito” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Lacan, 1995</xref>, p. 258).</p>
			<p>A verdade é a mensagem por trás do mito, não se pode separar essa relação porque um existe no outro. Se pensarmos na ideia de ficção clariceana e deslizarmos esse significante para a concepção lacaniana, chegaremos na ideia de uma construção impossível. Essa verdade, que sustenta o mito, é o gênero que pega, a impossibilidade de chegar no it.</p>
			<p>Uma ficção literária e uma ficção constitutiva, duas narrativas. “A necessidade estrutural que é carregada por toda expressão da verdade é justamente uma estrutura que é a mesma da ficção. A verdade tem uma estrutura, se podemos dizer, de ficção” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Lacan, 1995</xref>, p. 259). Entre as palavras escritas e o sujeito falante podemos fazer um deslizamento. Essa ficção-gênero pode ser também vista como ficção-mito, como aquilo que constitui o sujeito, seu Fort-da<xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn1">1</xref> para lidar com a falta.</p>
			<p>Na lógica dos discursos que Lacan desenvolve no Seminário 17, a verdade é abrigada, ela sustenta o agente do discurso, mas não se pode chegar nela. Ao querer buscar o que está atrás do pensamento, propomos que talvez Clarice quisesse chegar nessa verdade de si. Contudo, o que a narradora mesma lida no decorrer de todo livro é com essa impossibilidade de chegar à liberdade. “A verdadeira incomensurabilidade é o nada, que não tem barreiras e é onde uma pessoa pode espraiar seu pensar-agir” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 90).</p>
			<p>A verdade que tem estrutura de ficção carrega a impossibilidade de se chegar. Denominar uma obra de ficção é uma forma de falar dessa verdade que constitui, uma maneira de descobrir o que se esconde, a sua falta, o gênero que não recobre totalmente, e, ainda assim, não se pode escapar dele. Não se pode chegar nem dizer a verdade, ela se faz em ato. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan (1972/2012)</xref> chama de “discurso ingênuo” aquele que acredita dizer toda verdade absoluta. Ingênuo porque basta questionar um pouco para que se contradiga e a verdade escape, e revele o furo.</p>
			<p>Destarte, verdade e ficção pareceriam até opostos entre si, não fosse essa perspectiva do real, da impossibilidade. Talvez baste querer chegar nela, sem de fato afirmar que a detém, tendo em vista que ela é ato e não algo que se possua. “A verdade está em alguma parte: mas é inútil pensar. Não a descobrirei e, no entanto, vivo dela” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). Onde o sujeito não pensa, ele é. A verdade é justamente isso mesmo que não se chega nunca, e, no entanto, se vive dela. “E não adiantaria explicar porque a explicação exige uma outra explicação que exigiria uma outra explicação e que se abriria de novo para o mistério” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31).</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="conclusions">
			<title>Conclusão</title>
			<p>Nossa proposta foi articular a letra e a escrita nas perspectivas do furo no saber e também como produtores de efeito de gozo, usando a obra Água Viva como interlocução dessa escrita que é litoral. Pensamos ainda a posição do escritor, bem como a do leitor, e a construção desse pas de sens, que não é só esvaziar o sentido, mas produzir algum efeito de reescrita. Podemos concluir que no “antilivro” está a criação do sujeito, sujeito que emerge da fileira de pensamento, “desse algo de real que produz o efeito de cometa” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 112). É ao tentar sair das classificações que Clarice trilha seu caminho, livre dos gêneros, e pode definir para si sua letra, traçando sua borda entre o furo no saber e o gozo.</p>
			<p>Entre verdade e ficção, o furo. Algo que se apresenta e revela aquilo que não se sabe completamente. Neste trabalho trouxemos Água Viva como uma forma de aproximação do conceito de letra lacaniano, como uma escrita que bordeia o furo e cria para si uma ficção. Assim, pudemos articular os campos da psicanálise e da literatura, partindo do conceito de letra como litoral, que bordeia o furo no saber e o gozo. Falamos sobre as invenções com os furos, da relação do sujeito com o saber, fazendo uma ponte com Água Viva.</p>

				<title>Abstract</title>
				<p>This article discusses writing as an erasure that inscribes a mark on the subject’s body, taking Clarice Lispector’s Água Viva as our point of departure. We propose to articulate the Letter and writing from the perspectives of the hole in knowledge and their production of effects of jouissance, using Água Viva as an interlocutor for a writing that is littoral. Accordingly, we examine Lacan’s psychoanalytic concept of the Letter, following the logic of the signifier, which does not confine itself to classifications but slides in its meaning. The Claricean work serves as a guide for this “whole-body understanding.” To clarify the discussion, we problematize the concepts of knowledge and jouissance in relation to the literary text, highlighting convergences and possible similarities between psychoanalytic theory and literature. The Claricean “anti-book” Água Viva can orient the comprehension of the Letter insofar as it escapes literary-genre classifications and, in doing so, defines its fiction - its not-all truth - while tracing a border with the hole in knowledge and producing effects of jouissance through its erasures.</p>

		<body>
			<p>This article presents the path developed in a master’s thesis that set out to articulate psychoanalysis and literature, titled Letra como Litoral de Água Viva: Reflexões Psicanalíticas Sobre a Escrita em Clarice Lispector e o Gênero. Our aim was to discuss the Lacanian concept of the Letter from a poetic perspective, taking Clarice Lispector’s Água Viva as our object. We pursued a psychoanalytic reading that allowed us to wander through words - sliding across meanings and signifiers - as a method for reading texts.</p>
			<p>We approach Água Viva as writing, as a Letter, that writes an existence for itself. Our intent was to attend to possible relations between Lacanian-oriented psychoanalysis and this writing of lituraterra. We took care not to occupy the pedagogical position of teaching that would formulate an all-encompassing statement about the work; rather, we sought to show the littoral between Clarice and Lacan. In this heterogeneous encounter, we position ourselves on the shifting margin in-between. It is not a matter of delimiting knowledge about one or the other, but of letting something emerge from the experience with writing.</p>
			<p>We selected this work among many possible ones because it is a “novel without a novel,” in which the author makes the word perform a pirouette. The “I” appears without a name and rejects any logic imposed a priori by classification: “But what harm is there in my straying from logic? I am dealing with raw material. I am after what lies behind thought. It is useless trying to classify me: I simply slip away; genre doesn’t catch me anymore” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 13).</p>
			<p>In Água Viva, “what I say is never what I tell you but something else. Grasp that thing which escapes me and yet I live from it and float on a brilliant darkness” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 14). We chose this work precisely because it speaks of what escapes-in the interlines where the subject dwells.</p>
			<p>These passages foreground a writing that neither confines nor allows itself to be confined by labels and classifications. We therefore proceed from two strands of Lacan’s teaching on the Letter - knowledge and jouissance - in order to trace the concept without collapsing it into a definition. We think of knowledge in its relation to the symbolic, drawing on the Lacanian premise of the unconscious structured like a language to articulate the fields of the symbolic. How might the Água Viva be seen as an “in-between,” an edge, a littoral? It is a question without a fixed answer, one we set out to theorize over the course of this work. To that end, we begin by developing the concept of the Letter in Lacan alongside the registers of the symbolic and the real - the Letter “drawn,” bordering jouissance and knowledge - and then we articulate this concept in the writing of Água Viva, punctuating literature and psychoanalysis.</p>
			<p>For the concepts of Letter and writing in Lacanian theory, we start from the chapter “Lituraterra,” in Seminar XVIII: On a Discourse That Would Not Be of the Semblant. We also draw on other authors who address the Letter and writing, such as Ram Mandil (2010), to clarify the concepts of knowledge and jouissance in relation to our chosen work, highlighting convergences and possible similarities between psychoanalytic theory and literature.</p>
			<p>First, we discuss the hole in knowledge through passages that foreground the “meaningless” word. Second, we examine the effects of jouissance produced in the relation between the subject and writing, building a bridge to some of Roland <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes’s reflections (2015</xref>). Finally, we propose a few possible signifying slips concerning “fiction” and “genre,” articulating literature and psychoanalysis. We use excerpts from Água Viva as section epigraphs to underscore the articulation between the writing and the psychoanalytic topics addressed.</p>
			<p>We recognize, first, that the knowledge psychoanalysis offers - neither limited to nor consolidated in the Oedipal resolution - is fragmentary and incomplete. Second, as Freud suggests (1933/1996c, p. 143), those who wish to know more should “inquire of your own experience of life, or consult the poets, or wait until science can give you deeper and more coherent information.”</p>
			<p>Knowledge is by nature fragmentary; this is one of our premises. The Letter and the writings of Água Viva and of gender are relations we construct to keep thinking about mental life beyond the conventions of anatomy, sociology, or literary genres. We interweave poets with new studies in psychoanalysis and the social sciences, always emphasizing the premise of the not-all. Beyond consulting poets or scientists, the knowledge in this work remains incomplete and fragmentary because it points to what, in the subject, does not complement itself, makes a lack, and causes desire.</p>
			<sec>
				<title>“Madness is neighbor to the cruelest sanity”</title>
				<p>Imagine any beach: sea and sand - the dry part contrasted with the wet, the mis-meeting of the two. Perhaps complementary, but heterogeneous, the littoral forms from this layered blend that is visibly separate. With this image in mind, we proceed to discuss what complements without becoming one; a difference that distinguishes and makes the singular, that allows the mis-meeting which unites and separates at once.</p>
				<p>Clarice Lispector carried an air of foreignness and difference, regardless of her nationality. When asked about it, she replied that she belonged to Brazil. She adopted the language, the customs, the Brazilian nationality, and still, an aura of mystery followed her. Her extimacy came from elsewhere; she did not fit into classifications. She disliked superficialities; there was something mysterious, almost impenetrable, about her. For many, her writing was incomprehensible - not in the logical order of understanding, but of nonsense. In a 1977 interview with Júlio Lerner for TV Cultura, she says, “I suppose that understanding me is not a matter of intelligence but of feeling, of making contact. Either it touches, or it doesn’t.”</p>
				<p>In this place of extimacy, no definition fits. Perhaps this impossibility of classification is what best defines her. Carlos Drummond de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Andrade (2014</xref>, p. 71) made her into a poem: “Clarice came from a mystery and departed for another (…) she was not a commonplace, an ID card, a portrait. The purest portrait of Clarice can only be found behind the cloud (…) she merely fascinated us. We left understanding her for later.”</p>
				<p>Understanding is deferred; first comes what lies behind the cloud, behind thought - that mystery in the shape of a woman, writer, journalist, mother, Jew, housewife, foreigner, or any other nomination. She distanced herself from personal accounts; she did not follow an autobiographical bent; she wanted to speak of the human: “I will not be autobiographical. I want to be bio” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
				<p>A lover of writing, a foreigner to the land, set free by words, her work bears this air of mystery and depth. For our purposes we chose Água Viva, a novel-without-a-novel that does not fit literary classification; it stands in extimacy. Inside and outside, the book is described by the author herself as an “anti-book”: it goes against literary norms and does not follow rules.</p>
				<p>The littoral, unlike a border, reveals the heterogeneity of what composes it. Between the fluidities of sea and sand - in the ebb and flow - the difference appears. Lacan uses the littoral as a metaphor for the Letter. For him, the Letter draws the littoral between the hole in knowledge and the effect of jouissance; it makes an edge - almost a contour that prevents falling while also marking that there is a lack there. We will develop this further below.</p>
				<p>Because our focus is Água Viva, we also evoke a marine figure to represent a writing that is fluid in its structure. A transparent animal, without a defined form, lacking a fixed bony structure - almost entirely water - its beauty must be admired from a distance; too close can be dangerous. We can relate this image to the hole in knowledge: it cannot be grasped, held in one’s hands, or fitted into a concept; it is fluid and escapes.</p>
				<p>As for the work itself, perhaps Clarice was inspired by this sea creature to say her writing; those who try to trap it in classifications get a shock. Whether physical or metaphorical, the subject is jolted on being touched. Estrangement is always present. The word is not rigid bone but water. Meaning is fluid and can slide. The word gains value by shedding predetermined sense, by remaining out of reach and forever eluding understanding.</p>
				<p>Freud founded psychoanalysis on the wager that “the subject is not master in his own house.” Self-control reaches only so far. We tend our house, but total mastery over oneself is impossible. A misplaced word, a strange dream, an action that bespeaks a desire - these reveal the unconscious. What appears to be an error ends up revealing a knowledge that is not known.</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Freud’s first publication (1895/1996a)</xref>, Studies on Hysteria, with Breuer, is situated amid a certain mystery. Patients arrived with an ailment - a cough that would not stop, a paralysis, or some other bodily symptom - for which no tangible physiological explanation could be found. Freud realized there was a reason hidden in what they said, an unconscious logic linked to their symptoms.</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>Since Studies on Hysteria (1893-5), by Freud and Breuer, the etiology of neurosis was tied to a “not-knowing,” expressed as gaps in memory about past events. Even then, Freud suspected these gaps did not result from a passive erasure of memory, but from an operation that set a “not-wanting-to-know” in motion. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 64)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>Across his work, Lacan returns to <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams (1900/1996b)</xref>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901/1996c)</xref>, and <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious (1905/1996d)</xref> to think the functioning of this psychic instance. From dreams, witticisms, slips, bungled and symptomatic acts, he discerns that a system orders this instance and thus states that “the unconscious is structured like a language,” not far from Freud’s claim that “the dream has the structure of a sentence.”</p>
				<p>This proposition is fundamental for understanding the subject’s relation to unconscious formations that appear as if they were not one’s own. This instance, over which the subject lacks mastery, throws open the failure of “self-knowledge.” <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Descartes (1637/2005)</xref> asserts through the maxim “I think, therefore I am” that existence is tied to thought. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Lacan (1972/2012</xref>, p. 112), by contrast, avers: “I am where I do not think” - precisely where reason does not reach, there being exists.</p>
				<p>While philosophy advocates self-knowledge through reason, psychoanalysis emphasizes the hole in knowledge: an incomplete, lacking subject who does not possess total control or knowledge of self. In fact, for psychoanalysis reason distances the individual from himself. In trying to rationally fill the void, one loses sight of the unconscious - the knowledge the subject himself does not know.</p>
				<p>Often, the subject does not want to know what disturbs and unsettles. The word of the day in the contemporary West is mindset: a set of synapses that shape you, and - so the theory goes - if one only “worked the mind” properly to correct and refashion them for utility, life would change. In the neoliberal era, even the mind is trainable for success.</p>
				<p>Within this logic of self-control and optimization, unconscious knowledge is neglected. Yet no matter how one tries to forget lack and the “stranger within,” unconscious formations do not cease by sheer will, by a new habit, or by a new mindset. We are not masters in our own house; consciousness is not conscious of everything; knowledge is holed.</p>
				<p>Lacan writes: “They know, subjects. But still, even so, they do not know everything. At the level of this not-all there is only the Other that does not know. It is the Other that makes the not-all, precisely insofar as it is the part that from-all-does-not-know in this not-all” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">1973/2008</xref>, p. 105). One cannot know totally; reason is holed - always incomplete, lacking. However much one wishes to cover lack, the subject cannot know everything.</p>
				<p>By citing Clarice <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector (1998</xref>) - “madness is neighbor to the cruelest sanity” - as our subtitle, we underscore a sanity whose cruelty borders on madness. Rationality has a function, an operation, and a limit. To tampon the hole with knowledge - or anything else - is to remain in a “not-wanting-to-know,” which does not stop dreams, slips, or those “equivocations” that embarrass the subject.</p>
				<p>We proceed, contrariwise, with psychoanalysis alongside Clarice in Água Viva, seeking what cannot be grasped. We try to capture “that thing which escapes me and yet I live from it” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 14), diving into the depths of oneself, in contact with a knowledge that is a question without an answer.</p>
				<p>Cruel sanity is to perceive a single meaning in the word; we are moving away from that and toward holed knowledge. The hole suggests mis-apprehension, equivocation. The word has more than one meaning; it has materiality. Clarice treats the word as arrow, as stone, as something to manipulate. The hole is a mis-meeting - and the mis-meeting is the only way to bear life “full on” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 70).</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>, p. 64) recalls Lacan’s assertion that “the unconscious is not losing memory but, above all, a not-remembering what one knows.” There is a knowledge the subject does not wish to utter, yet it reveals itself through unconscious manifestations. In The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Freud, 1901/1996c</xref>), Freud describes clinical accounts of what he calls “symptomatic acts” and “blunders” committed by patients-acts that reveal a second intention, an unconscious desire.</p>
				<p>On these symptomatic acts and blunders, Freud notes that they “express something of which the agent himself is unaware, and which as a rule he does not intend to communicate but to keep to himself” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">1901/1996c</xref>, p. 199). A knowledge one does not wish to know causes such discomfort that the subject prefers to silence it. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) reminds us that, to speak of this suspended knowledge, Lacan refers to the biblical story of King Belshazzar, who receives an inscription on a wall calling for decipherment.</p>
				<p>The story tells that, during a royal banquet, a hand appears and writes on the wall a phrase the king cannot decipher - an enigma. Faced with the unknown, Belshazzar summons an interpreter and calls Daniel to explain the writing. The parallel is apt: a subject dreams something he does not understand and brings this message to the analyst in search of elucidation.</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) argues that the writings on the wall are a “knowledge in suspension,” readable in two ways: as the subject’s enigma - whose meaning it falls to him to answer - or as the supposition that the knowledge lies in another person, who will be able to explain it. When one deposits this knowledge in the Other, one cancels the search for oneself - the subject’s encounter with his hole. The writing on the wall was a message for King Belshazzar, yet he could not understand it and sought an interpreter - sought the answer in another. The hole appears, and one immediately tries to tampon it. Messages must be deciphered, if need be by others.</p>
				<p>Paradoxically, it is through the mis-apprehended, through equivocation, that the knowledge psychoanalysis speaks of is found: “Precisely because it is a place that differs from any apprehension by the subject, a knowledge is freed, since it offers itself only through what, for the subject, is mis-apprehended” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 67).</p>
				<p>Following this understanding of the subject who plunges into the unknown of himself, we will bridge to Clarice’s writing. Through the mis-apprehended - enigmatic writing - we let ourselves be invaded by what resists interpretation: a knowledge not known, yet still pursuing “the true word that has until now remained untouched” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 11).</p>
				<p>To articulate Água Viva with these psychoanalytic concepts, we bring the work closer as a “knowledge in suspension,” not liable to interpretation but pointing to a not-all knowledge. Our stance toward literature, guided by psychoanalysis, is difficult to fix. We follow the logic Lacan adopts when he brings Joyce into his teaching:</p>
				<disp-quote>
					<p>What truly seems to indicate a distinct perspective for the encounter between psychoanalysis and the literary work is recognizing that we would never, for instance, be able to single out the step taken by Lacan toward renewing the notion of symptom without the reading he made of Joyce. A reading, moreover, that undergoes the effects of the work, insofar as the elaboration of the notion of symptom is carried out by a Lacan who allows himself to be “Joycified,” which translates into the way his text lets itself be shaped by the very procedures and devices adopted by the writer. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 20)</p>
				</disp-quote>
				<p>A certain influence of the author - the mark of her writing, a “letting oneself be shaped” by Clarice - guides our effort to elucidate psychoanalytic concepts in proximity to her text. Letter, writing, and - specifically here - the hole in knowledge, the littoral that outlines it, by plunging into the Água Viva that bubbles in the unknown. “From this experience of encounter, some will make poetry, others psychoanalysis” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco, 2011</xref>, p. 66).</p>
				<p>Clarice does not follow conventional form, nor does she seem concerned with making herself understood; she aims to provoke questioning. In Água Viva, she wields a singular language: words step out of common sense and acquire the status of things. Meaning is twisted into the shape that best - or worst - fits the reader. “My effort: to bring the future into the now. I move within my deep instincts that accomplish themselves blindly. Then I feel I am near springs, ponds, and waterfalls, all with abundant waters. And I am free” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30). In the instant-now, the freedom of abundant waters. In this mix of poetry and psychoanalysis, the search for a writing of the unreachable.</p>
				<p>Here and now, something still escapes. The pursuit is for depth - to say what reveals the hole itself; one cannot say everything. “From-all-does-not-know”: something slips; what is said is not exactly what one thinks one hears; it has another sense. “Listen to me, listen to my silence. What I say is never what I say but something else. When I say ‘abundant waters’ I am speaking of the body’s force in the waters of the world. Grasp that other thing I truly speak of because I myself cannot” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30).</p>
				<p>This “other thing” - what is not understood - is an expression of the silence that seeks to say the truth. But the truth itself is unreachable. If we recall Poe’s The Purloined Letter, which <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Lacan (1971/2009)</xref> uses to discuss the Letter, we may note the moment when, while the police searched according to a fixed description, Dupin took the letter as matter - hence modifiable. The letter might have been altered in various ways; thus he found it, unlike those bound to the initial description.</p>
				<p>“I write you this facsimile of a book, the book of someone who does not know how to write; yet in the lighter realm of speech I hardly know how to speak - much less speak to you in writing” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 54). “Not knowing” how to write - or, for the reader, “not knowing” how to read - is the condition for hearing this text. Not knowing. The discomfort of not fully grasping what is being said - or what it means - is precisely the point of reading a “knowledge in suspension.”</p>
				<p>For Lacan, the Letter functions like a littoral that draws a border around the hole in knowledge. It marks failure - truth is not attained, for it can be overshot by the message. The Letter is thus “an essentially localized structure in the signifier” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Lacan, 1957/1998</xref>, p. 505). The signifier slides - from an oyster one may arrive at music, a waterfall, a perfume.</p>
				<p>By way of metaphor we relate the dimension of the Letter to the signifier stripped of any signification. When meaning decants to the bottom of the well, the signifier may surface - one disconnected from the other. In other words, the word must be cast to the bottom and lose its meaning so that it may become littoral.</p>
				<p>“But there is also the impersonal mystery that is the it: I have the impersonal inside me” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 30). The it may be nothing or everything; it does not matter which sense is given, because both writing and reading summon that impersonal within, which is more personal than anything else. “What am I doing in writing to you? I am trying to photograph perfume” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 54). To try to say the impossible, to trace the hole: that is writing.</p>
				<p>Writing is both shedding and construction. On the page, something is left behind even as the subject is made - seeking the knowledge that escapes. “What I do not like is when they squeeze lemon into my depths and make me writhe. Are the facts of life the lemon on the oyster? Does the oyster sleep?” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31).</p>
				<p>The path is that of incomprehension - the search for what makes one writhe, like lemon on an oyster. “Does what I do not see not exist? What moves me most is what I do not see, yet it exists. For then I have the unknown world, which exists fully and is full of rich saliva” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). Here we have outlined something of the knowledge that is not known, the hole that unsettles the subject along the path of comprehension. Only by leaving the logic of classifications can one reach a knowledge of self - as not-all subjects, not full masters of our own house. We now turn to Lacan’s notion of the effect of jouissance as it pertains to the Letter.</p>
			</sec>
			<sec>
				<title>“Pain is life in excess”</title>
				<p>For <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Lacan (1973/2008)</xref>, the Letter draws the littoral between jouissance and knowledge - two heterogeneous fields, like sea and sand, foreign to one another. “A letter, a litter”: the letter, the missive, the trash. The Letter does not merely carry an enigmatic message that bears something of the subject; it also has materiality - as refuse. Here we linger on the effect the Letter provokes: its capacity to be torn, destroyed, thrown away.</p>
				<p>A text does not only carry a message; it carries an erasure. Handwriting inscribes itself with the body - a certain freedom to do anything with what presents itself. “I am giving you freedom. First I break the water sac. Then I cut the umbilical cord. And you are alive on your own. And when I am born, I am free. This is the basis of my tragedy” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 35).</p>
				<p>Water running down the hills carries remnants of matter; each pass gathers more. It makes a hole, a tear, a writing. The writing we emphasize here is formed by the erasures of what has been dragged along. Unlike a polished text that fits literary formats, lituraterra emerges from what becomes remainder - trash - what leaves a mark on the earth.</p>
				<p>Água Viva is lituraterra insofar as it produces an effect of jouissance. The trace the sea leaves on the sand, the furrows opened in the ground, indicate that something was torn away and removed; they display the lack that cannot be filled. In the notion of lituraterra, jouissance is provoked in the erasure. The earth carried off by water writes something in the subject; the writing is effected even in what is lost of him.</p>
				<p>A land of “lituras,” of erasures - open furrows, grains swept away by water - reveals something of an impossibility. A word written and emptied of meaning becomes a mark, an effect. This writing is movement - furrows that run from ground to page. Writing that touches the point of jouissance marks by way of erasure. “Writing for me is frustrating: in writing I deal with the impossible” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 72).</p>
				<p>By this we do not mean any text, but a text as act - writing that does not end in itself but continues in the reader. It does not cease not to be inscribed. It reaches a point of impossibility - what cannot be fully said because it is not finite. Art has the capacity to lift the subject toward another perspective beyond the ordinary and, from there, to tear the veil that once concealed. But this occurs only for those who allow themselves to listen with the whole body, outside the path of mere comprehension.</p>
				<p>In Hans Holbein the Younger’s painting The Ambassadors (1533; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Google Arts &amp; Culture, 2023</xref>), various symbolic elements of wealth and status are on display, yet a blur appears at the edge of the canvas. There is a skull in the painting that can be seen only from another angle; one must change one’s field of vision to perceive it. In this way, the painter highlights precisely this property of art: its power to reveal what is meant to remain hidden between the lines.</p>

				</p>
				<p>The skull persists even in the most elegant painting - as a symbol of finitude, a counterpoint to emblems of royalty, a memento of life’s end. The real keeps returning, devoid of meaning in itself even when bathed in signifiers, as in this canvas. “The real is what you come up against precisely because you cannot write anything of it in mathematics. The real concerns the fact that, in what is the most common function, you bathe in significance yet cannot hold all the signifiers at once” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 29).</p>
				<p>Ana Maria <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Valle (2007</xref>) argues that art serves to point to the existence of the real - i.e., to unsettle the subject’s fixed bases and reveal other angles. “One of the essential values of art lies in shaking the subject out of the everyday - unsettling the webs that guarantee meaning, prying the subject away from daily and weekly routine to elevate perception, pointing to a beyond, to something never before imagined” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Valle, 2007</xref>, p. 122).</p>
				<p>To provoke those who allow themselves to enter into contact with the work - to see beyond what is set before them and step outside the ordinary - is one of art’s capacities. Not merely beauty or the pleasure of viewing, but the provocation of what one does not understand, what is strange and incomprehensible.</p>
				<p>Art points to the real, and so does writing. Returning to our focal work, Água Viva, we underscore the power of a text that produces effects of jouissance - that points to the real of the impossible. Clarice does not write with the aim of perfect intelligibility or a logical chain of ideas. The reading is meant to be undergone: “What I am writing to you is not to be read - it is to be lived” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 37).</p>
				<p>Here we recall that <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Lacan (1973/2008)</xref> distinguishes literature from what he calls lituraterra. For him, literary manuals try to write something of myth to veil the real. At this point he defends the promotion of writing over speech, as if to distinguish Letter and signifier - the two dimensions of lettre we have been discussing: as message and as materiality.</p>
				<p>There is a heterogeneous pair, and the Letter draws the littoral between the two fields in question - the hole in knowledge and the effect of jouissance. Jouissance is articulated to the materiality of the Letter. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil (2003</xref>) notes that “the passage from the letter’s messenger function to its nature as object (…) does not occur without a discontinuity in articulated knowledge” (p. 49). That discontinuity appears in the two images Lacan uses to figure lituraterra: the littoral itself and the notion of erasure - of writing as a ravining of waters, as Lispector enacts.</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Lacan (1973/2008)</xref> develops lituraterra through language, with the notion of the Letter as essential to the promotion of writing: “I shall borrow the traits that allow me, by an economy of language, to sketch what leads to my idea that literature may be turning into litter-ature” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Lacan, 1973/2008</xref>, p. 111).</p>
				<p>Thus lituraterra is conceived through two figures that accompany the Letter as an essential dimension of writing (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 49): the promotion of writing, the Letter distinct from the signifier and bearing materiality beyond any message. “The idea of erasure, as well as the written as ‘furrow,’ together with the metaphor of the ‘littoral,’ composes the tripod upon which Lacan seeks to seat the Letter at this moment in his trajectory” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">Mandil, 2003</xref>, p. 49).</p>
				<p>Lituraterra, then, is bound up with effects of jouissance-with what is sensed, experienced in the body. The mark of lack is intrinsic to the human condition; emptiness and non-sense accompany subjects despite efforts to tampon them. “It is never the impossible. I like never. I also like always. What is there between never and always that binds us so indirectly and intimately?” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 36). Between never and always lies the impossible we strive to write.</p>
				<p>From this perspective of literary writing as lituraterra - which makes erasures and reveals the real instead of veiling it - we can also perceive Água Viva as litter. With her writing, Lispector brings the reader to an encounter with what we have called the remains of the self borne off by the sea - to perceive Holbein’s skull. “When one sees, the act of seeing has no form - what is seen sometimes has form, sometimes not. The act of seeing is ineffable” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 89).</p>
				<p>We have been discussing jouissance since its formulation “beyond the pleasure principle,” as a drive satisfaction not necessarily pleasurable. We chose “pain is life in excess” as a subtitle precisely to read Lacan with Clarice: to mark the contradiction at the heart of jouissance - the impossibility of complete satisfaction that repeats and “does not cease not to be written.” From Lispector’s Água Viva we turn to Barthes to consider the real that presents itself, the pleasure, and the effect of jouissance in the text - articulating Lacan’s lituraterra and writing with the notion of écriture that Barthes elucidates.</p>
				<p>In The Pleasure of the Text, Roland <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes (2015</xref>) explores the text that summons the reader and desires him - that provokes. He distinguishes a subjective pleasure (of the one who writes and reads) from an objectal pleasure - of a substance that offers itself to be read and written. Writing steps away from the value of signification and enters materiality. Ruptures give pleasure; in erasures there is jouissance. He calls it fruition in this translation: “a way of cutting, of breaking discourse without rendering it nonsensical” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 14).</p>
				<p>Through cuts and irruptions of discourse, something is passed to the reader in the tone of provocation. “The pleasure of reading evidently comes from certain breaks” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 11). The effect of jouissance we have been addressing can be linked to this écriture that operates by rupture. “It is with such profound joy. It is such an alleluia. Alleluia, I cry, an alleluia that merges with the darkest human howl - the pain of separation - and yet it is a cry of diabolical happiness. Because no one holds me anymore” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 9).</p>
				<p>The alleluia is also pain, separation. Not being held implies loss as well. No one holds her anymore; no genre captures her; classification is useless. In the cry, a diabolical happiness. The impossibility, in the ambivalence between pain and alleluia, emerges in a writing of what cannot be written. The unsayable remains, but in giving it words something is contoured.</p>
				<p>The real of rupture - the leftover of the word - distances writing from “literature” and brings it closer to lituraterra, insofar as it is made of erasure. For Lacan, writing is not merely the sum of words on a page - not just any text - but bears the real with it. “The idea I have of writing is the return of the repressed” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 25). And what returns is the real that insists. Hence a writing that cannot be repressed returns.</p>
				<p>An écriture forged in rupture provokes unrest - which is also a pleasure. “What I write to you does not come on gently, rising little by little to a climax and then dying away gently. No: what I write to you is fire, like eyes of embers” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). In the encounter between <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes’s écriture (2015</xref>) and the writing in Lacan’s teaching we have been discussing, the convergence is evident: “In the text of pleasure, contrary forces are no longer in a state of repression but of becoming: nothing is truly antagonistic; everything is plural” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Barthes, 2015</xref>, p. 40).</p>
				<p>To speak of writing is also to speak of the Letter. The two notions are articulated but not synonymous. As noted, the Letter - the littoral between jouissance and knowledge - is pas de sens (without sense), emptied of meaning and therefore able to confer a step of sense. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco (2011</xref>, p. 157) ventures the hypothesis that some writers may, “through the arrangement of letters that constitutes writing, promote a pas de sens. At times, a true step of sense that rewrites the meaning of a text and of a life.”</p>
				<p>Regarding the relation among author, writing, and Letter, we must distinguish the author as subject from the author as writer. Clarice herself kept her distance from her works whenever possible, insisting they were not confessional outpourings but encounters with her humanity. As if, in pursuing the intangible - that which cannot be found or said - she were writing the pas de sens we have been describing. “I will not be autobiographical. I want to be bio” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 35).</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco (2011</xref>) maintains that writing does not come after speech or words; it cannot be wholly independent of the subject who inscribes himself there, even as that subject is produced by the writing itself. “Like a Möbius strip, writing and subject maintain a relation of interiority/exteriority that does not oppose one to the other but rather conjoins them continually in movements that only seem to alternate” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Branco, 2011</xref>, p. 65).</p>
				<p>We thus bring to the fore the materiality and the hole in the sense of écriture: “I want to be able to grasp the word with my hand. My unbalanced words are the luxury of my silence. I write through acrobatic, aerial pirouettes - I write because I deeply want to speak” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
			</sec>
			<sec>
				<title>“I do not find the answer: I am”</title>
				<p>Continuing our reading of Clarice Lispector’s Água Viva, we propose another psychoanalytic articulation of this writing. Following the logic of the signifier - apprehended as acoustic image rather than as mere common meaning - we pursue a few slippages: beginning with the literary classification “fiction,” we consider what it may reveal about gender and about the subject’s own fiction, drawing on several psychoanalytic concepts. We briefly revisit Lacan’s claim that truth has the structure of fiction to think gender as a fiction.</p>
				<p>Early in Água Viva, Clarice declares: “this is not a book because that is not how one writes” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12). Writing is not fabrication; it is a construction made with the whole body. A total of 3 years after finishing the manuscript, she did not want to release it for publication; she considered it unfinished. Even so, the first edition appeared in 1973, encouraged by the editor Álvaro Pacheco.</p>
				<p>That first edition included a section of “practical notes for the translator” and a contractual leaf for the reader - a kind of pact between author and reader. Sônia <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Roncador (1996</xref>) recalls a nearly erased fragment: “Form in itself is its only possible content. Content without form does not exist.” On the title page there were handwritten notes: “A person speaking”; “Letters to the sea”; “This is an anti-book”; and “If you consider this more than a letter, be aware it is an anti-book.”</p>
				<p>What is being rejected when the author classifies the work as an “anti-book”? Is it an attempt to become the opposite, or a refusal of the initial conception of “book”? Água Viva speaks from behind thought - outside ordinary logic, genres, and classifications. Perhaps “anti-book” was meant to prepare the reader to set aside prior expectations. Still, to write “this is an anti-book,” however far the writing strays from literary norms, does not entirely escape classification; the “Claricean” style finds its place in literature nonetheless.</p>
				<p>For the inaugural publication, the author asked that the work be defined as fiction, given its metaphysical tenor. Much like the “contract,” she wanted the very classification to signal difference - to ready the reader to loosen the expectations tied to labels. To call something a novel, for instance, is to invite certain expectations of form. The same holds for short story, chronicle, poetry, or any other label. “Fiction” was Clarice’s chosen genre because it opens space and permits a play with freedom. At once loose and weighty, Água Viva stages the volatility and the gravity of words.</p>
				<p>The assertion “is” and the negation “anti” within the same phrase already mark the ambivalence that runs through the text. To classify the work as “fiction” or “anti-book” still binds it to the logic of framing - even if one seeks to slip it. Noting this ambivalence brings into relief the hole in knowledge and the effect of jouissance outlined by a Letter that draws the littoral.</p>
				<p>Clarice speaks with silence, makes the word fly as if it were an object, and sets in play the ambivalence of human existence: to be an anti-book and yet remain caught in classification - harmoniously disharmonious. “The secret harmony of disharmony: I want not what is complete, but what is tortuously still in the making. My unbalanced words are the luxury of my silence. I write through acrobatic and aerial pirouettes - I write because I deeply want to speak” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 12).</p>
				<p>To denominate a work “fiction” may offer a certain liberty from heavy formatting. Characters need not be fixed; time and space need not be defined as in the novel. Água Viva is an anti-book insofar as it seeks to remain free of such bindings, yet it remains a book even as it strains against the label.</p>
				<p>It is a fiction that portrays a painter/writer who treats words as objects-on canvas and on the page - writing as if painting. And in both media she writes as an amateur-simply “without rule.” However far from what is “common” in literature, the book can still be approached through certain literary formulations. Built as poetic-prose narrative, it features an unnamed “I” who addresses a “you.”</p>
				<p>Without a name, narrators may be manifold, and the reading unfolds as if the reader were receiving a letter with no destination. Because no single character is fixed, identification with the addressee becomes possible - a blending of “I” and “you.” “And if I say ‘I’ it is because I do not dare say ‘you,’ or ‘we,’ or ‘one.’ I am forced into the humility of personalizing myself by making myself small, but I am the thou-you” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 13).</p>
				<p>Neiva de Souza <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Boeno (2017</xref>) likens the book to a “matryoshka,” those Russian nesting dolls that fit one inside another, since each reading yields another - a multiplicity of possible relations to the work. For her, Água Viva enacts an infinity of painted words, as if no sequential logic sustained a chain of ideas. The word echoes without sense so that it may make sense in the “thou-you” - i.e., each subject, in reading, generates a new sense.</p>
				<p>In this matryoshka reading, the book becomes plural and generational. Curiously, Clarice gave the work two earlier titles before the final one: first Atrás do Pensamento: Monólogo Com a Vida (1970-71), then Objeto Gritante (1972). In the end, Água Viva was chosen to evoke something that bubbles - movement against the stasis of literary forms. Like the nesting dolls, the movement is nearly infinite, mirroring the plurality of meanings.</p>
				<p>Sônia <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Roncador (1996</xref>) goes so far as to say the book amounts to a poetics of the act that perpetuates itself. The narrator-character confesses to living on the edge of climax and death, seeking to reach the it. Written in interruptions, the narrative insists that it does not want what is finished but what is tortuously being made - the instant-now. It asks not for reasoning but for a bodily hearing. It seeks the incomprehensible, visible in the way it is written - short sentences that refuse to explain.</p>
				<p>In this sense, the work invites the reader to plunge into what bubbles: far from stagnation, close to the immeasurable. “Beatitude begins at the moment when the act of thinking frees itself from the need for form” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 90). The quest is to be free of forms and frames. “Real freedom - as an act of perception - has no form” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 89).</p>
				<p>If we consider the label “fiction” chosen by the author, we can extend it in two directions: beyond the literary sense toward another kind of fiction - the speech of the subject in analysis. Between the said and the unsaid, bordering the void, the subject’s fiction is expressed. This speech carries within it many others, implied and encrypted between the lines.</p>
				<p>Ana Maria Vicentini de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Azevedo (2007</xref>) recalls Lacan’s formulation of this dimension of the implied, noting that “the truth of the unconscious dimension must be located in the interlines - precisely between the said and the unsaid” (p. 39). Hence reading stands out “as an act - a procedure that makes the word fold back on itself, on its traces and its absences” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Azevedo, 2007</xref>, p. 39).</p>
				<p>Thus, between the unconscious and reading - in a speech of self articulated in the interlines - the subject appears where he does not fully speak. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector (1998</xref>, p. 95) gestures toward the same: “Everything ends, but what I write to you continues. Which is good - very good. The best has not yet been written. The best is between the lines.” Not written, not said - fiction, enigma - it constitutes the subject. The interplay between what is exposed and the signifying slips present there is the very relation between psychoanalysis and literature, between the unconscious and letters. Dwelling in the interlines, fiction lies in the word emptied of fixed sense; definition or interpretation narrows comprehension.</p>
				<p>“The word. Its most intimate, extreme beauty lies in it. But it is unreachable - and when within reach, it proves illusory, for again it remains unreachable” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 72). One cannot simply apply a classification; a fiction is required so that nothing is lost. The word is unreachable: to believe one has reached it - to “know”- is precisely where fiction shows itself, where the hole in knowledge opens. A writing done with the whole body must be read with the whole body. It does not reach comprehension by the path of reasoning, but by the provocation of an enigmatic message. As the writing was composed, so must it be read - by a logic beyond reason and close to estrangement. The work demands to be heard with the body, in a reading that is ever renewed and unfinished. A reader may open to any page and, in a single line, encounter something that strikes deeply.</p>
				<p>What is essential in this work lies not in its theme but in its writing. Something is said abruptly - cast like a dart without a clear target - yet it strikes a point that provokes the reader. “Everything I write to you is tense. I use loose words that are in themselves a free dart: wild, barbarous, decadent nobles and marginal” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 27).</p>
				<p>Poetically, she wields words in a kind of savagery. Short sentences, no sequential line of reasoning - words that are, in themselves, darts and burning embers. “This is a feast of words. I write more in signs that are more a gesture than a voice” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 24). Like an unplanned gesture, “I let myself happen.”</p>
				<p>Writing moves; reading contorts. Word-pirouettes do not seek interpretation; they are objects thrown, landing in estrangement. The word reaches another sense, beyond representation, beyond the Saussurean sign. As if, in distancing herself from writing that serves the Other, Clarice sought a word of the self: “When a painting is strange to me, that is when it is painting. And when the word is strange to me, that is when it reaches meaning. And when life is strange to me, that is when life begins” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 83).</p>
				<p>Cristina Moreira <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B20">Marcos (2013</xref>) argues that the very style - stripped of linear guidance - renders interpretive reading impossible, for that is not the aim. She writes as if suspending words, handling them as matter. A kaleidoscopic writing, and so too its reading: fluid, revealing something new at each encounter. Água Viva admits infinite senses. It does not seek a logical chain of ideas but “the freedom to say things without nexus as a profound way to reach you” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 82).</p>
				<p>Choosing “fiction” to open space and loosen literalness still imposes a form - one cannot quite step outside it; it belongs to the work’s myth. In Água Viva, Clarice seeks what lies behind thought - to break free of classifications. The “madness of free invention” is not without precedent.</p>
				<p>
					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Lacan (1995</xref>) examines the structure and function of myths. In that seminar, myth appears as a timeless narrative with the character of fiction yet bearing a stability- a notion of structure. “This fiction maintains a singular relation with something always implied behind it, and of which it truly bears the formally indicated message, namely, truth. That is something that cannot be separated from myth” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Lacan, 1995</xref>, p. 258).</p>
				<p>Truth is the message behind the myth; the relation is inseparable because each exists in the other. If we slide Clarice’s “fiction” toward Lacan’s conception, we approach the idea of an impossible construction. The truth that sustains the myth is the gender that “catches,” the impossibility of reaching the it.</p>
				<p>A literary fiction and a constitutive fiction - two narratives. “The structural necessity borne by every expression of truth is precisely a structure that is the same as that of fiction. Truth has, so to speak, the structure of fiction” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Lacan, 1995</xref>, p. 259). Between written words and the speaking subject, we may propose another slippage: this fiction-as-genre can also be seen as fiction-as-myth - the device by which the subject is constituted, a kind of fort-da<xref ref-type="fn" rid="fn2">2</xref> to deal with lack.</p>
				<p>In the logic of discourses that Lacan elaborates in Seminar XVII, truth is housed under the bar; it supports the agent of discourse, yet it cannot be reached. In seeking what lies behind thought, perhaps Clarice aimed at this truth of self. Yet what the narrator confronts throughout the book is the impossibility of reaching freedom: “True immeasurability is the nothing, which has no barriers and is where a person can spread her think-act” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 90).</p>
				<p>Truth, with the structure of fiction, carries the impossibility of full attainment. To denominate a work “fiction” is a way of speaking this constitutive truth - a way of uncovering what is hidden: lack, the genre that never fully covers and yet cannot be escaped. One cannot reach or state “the whole truth”; it occurs as act. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Lacan (1972/2012)</xref> calls “naive discourse” the speech that believes it tells an absolute truth. Naive, because a slight interrogation suffices for contradiction to appear and truth to slip - revealing the hole.</p>
				<p>Thus truth and fiction might seem opposed, were it not for the perspective of the real - of impossibility. Perhaps it is enough to seek it without claiming possession, since truth is an act, not an object one holds. “Truth is somewhere, but it is useless to think. I will not discover it and, nonetheless, I live from it” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31). Where the subject does not think, he is. Truth is precisely that which one never reaches and yet lives from. “And it would be no use explaining, because explanation demands another explanation, which would demand another, and would open again onto mystery” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Lispector, 1998</xref>, p. 31).</p>

				<title>Conclusion</title>
				<p>Our aim was to articulate Letter and writing from two perspectives - the hole in knowledge and the production of effects of jouissance - taking Água Viva as the interlocutor for a writing that is littoral. We also considered the positions of writer and reader, and the construction of a pas de sens that is not merely an emptying of meaning but a production of rewriting effects. We conclude that in the “anti-book” lies the creation of the subject - the subject who emerges from the line of thought, “from that piece of the real that produces the effect of a comet” (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Lacan, 1972/2012</xref>, p. 112). By striving to slip the nets of classification, Clarice forges her path free of genres and can define her Letter, tracing its edge between the hole in knowledge and jouissance.</p>
				<p>Between truth and fiction, there is the hole - something that presents itself and reveals what cannot be fully known. In this work we approached the Lacanian concept of the Letter through Água Viva, as a writing that skirts the hole and creates a fiction for itself. In doing so, we articulated the fields of psychoanalysis and literature, starting from the notion of the Letter as littoral - bordering the hole in knowledge and jouissance. We discussed inventions around holes and the subject’s relation to knowledge, building a bridge to Água Viva.</p>

					<p>In Beyond the<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Pleasure Principle (1920/1996e), Freud</xref> observes his grandson repeatedly playing a game in which a spool disappears and reappears, accompanied by sounds the child makes as he throws it away and retrieves it. He interprets these sounds as fort (“gone”) and da (“there”) in German. Thus, Freud reads the fort-da game as the child’s dramatization of the mother’s departure and return. The play enables a shift in the child’s subjective position — from passive to active — since he can now control the object’s going and coming, rather than remain merely subject to the mother’s movements.</p>
